Upon launch of kdenlive, nothing happens, but a blinking cursor which times out. Launching kdenlive from a terminal shows nothing either. Reproducible: Steps to Reproduce:

Check your LADSPA_PATH environment variable. libDeckLinkAPI.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory QCoreApplication::postEvent: Unexpected null receiver lots of formats:, audio_codecs:, and video_codecs: scroll past and then I get a kdenlive Welcome pop up screen. Ironically enough, kdenlive runs under Cinnamon, but not KDE.
(In reply to Gary Frankenbery from comment #2) > Ironically enough, kdenlive runs under Cinnamon, but not KDE. Mine is a kde desktop manager/environment. I recommend creating a test account, say junk, boot kde, log into junk, click up a terminal, and run kdenlive just to make sure it is not a problem in your user account.
Yep--KDE for me too. The Cinnamon install was an experiment. Tried a new user as you suggested. No joy.

I can't reproduce it, for me on a clean cauldron install starts fine. Also the messages about no LADSPA plugins found I think they don't have anything to do with kdenlive not starting, as I also got them and the program starts ok. Can you try deleting the config file $HOME/.kde4/share/config/kdenliverc and the data directory $HOME/.kde4/share/apps/kdenlive/ ? There's also bug #10948 which seems to be this same one.
This bug is still valid in Mageia4 alpha3 with LiveDVD x86_64.

It still fails to start. It seems like the prozess of kdenlive is running, but there is nothing visible on the desktop.
Please run it from a konsole and paste the output here.

This bug is still valid in Mageie 4 beta 2. The prozess is running, but there is nothing visible on the desktop: $ ps aux | grep kdenlive live 4966 99.8 0.8 848020 132288 pts/1 R+ 02:13 3:29 kdenlive live 5244 0.0 0.0 103128 960 pts/2 S+ 02:17 0:00 grep --color kdenlive
(In reply to egc from comment #12) > This bug is still valid in Mageie 4 beta 2. Not on my clean install of Mageia-4-beta2-x86_64-DVD.iso, all updates applied and a reboot. I clicked up a xterm, entered kdenlive, went through setting up defaults, loaded a mp4 video, and was able to play it in the clip window. I also executed it from the KDE menu and played the same clip. $ lspci | grep -i vga 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Cedar [Radeon HD 5000/6000/7350/8350 Series] Also played a clip in a VirtualBox guest. I suggest creating a test account, say junk, log into junk, launch an xterm, run kdenlive, taking just the defaults and load a clip. Still broke? Maybe a video card/driver problem. My neighbor could not run flightgear. Only difference between his/my systems was I had installed a video card. He went and bought a card and flightgear no longer crashed.

ok, i started it from a KDE Live DVD. I tried with a new user, but still the same. I don't think it's a matter of video device, because it works perfectly on Mageia 3

Yes (at least here). Reproduced with fresh install of beta2 x86_64 DVD with KDE and all updates already applied. kdenlive doesn't start when run from terminal nor from menu, no error messages apart from the LADSPA path stuff, nothing in .xsession-errors or journal. Bug still persists when running Mageia 4 final. In addition, can't run kwrite and kate text editors. Running Mageia 4 final x86_64 with nvidia. Downloaded kdenlive from source, and compiled, and this seems to run fine. Also, as I said earlier, kdenlive runs fine under the cinnamon desktop. This one remains a mystery to me.
Version: Cauldron => 4
Well, after a network installation of the final release of Mageiea 4 x86_64 on my pc everything seems to work fine with nvidia driver. Kwrite is visible and also Kdenlive :-)
(In reply to egc from comment #25) > Well, after a network installation Actually i did an upgrade from Mageia 3, not a fresh installation.
ok, now it's getting interesting: I've testet the Final LiveDVD KDE _64 of Mageia 4 on an USB stick and kdenlive is not visible again on the Desktop. Could it be that on a fresh installation there is missing something which is already there when doing an upgrade from Mageia 3? Because after the upgrade everything works fine for me.
Please, this applies for every commenter: As this is a problem with the nvidia driver, always mention what driver version you've got currently installed, otherwise the comments have little or no value as essential information is missing. rpm -qa | grep nvidia | sort
nvidia-current 325.15 when I was testing.
(In reply to claire robinson from comment #29) > nvidia-current 325.15 when I was testing. OK, but what was the result of the testing? Good, bad, sunny weather, snow? :p
You closed my bug a few days ago. https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12244#c9 Not working. Rain :P
As far as i know there is only one version on all the final installation medias: nvidia-current 325.15 So it was also in my case always this version. However, what makes you so shure it is a driver problem? Why would it work then on the same pc after an upgrade from Mageia 3, but wouldn't work booting from a LiveDVD? IMHO there is missing some file in the final version of Mageia 4 ...
This bug could be due to (or triggered by) an empty config file - /etc/pkcs11/pkcs11.conf - incorrectly handled by a library (AFAIK, /etc/pkcs11/pkcs11.conf is empty by default after install). To all reporters affected by this bug, if your /etc/pkcs11/pkcs11.conf is empty (ls -l /etc/pkcs11/pkcs11.conf), could you try to remove it (as root), and report if it fixes the bug or not. If /etc/pkcs11/pkcs11.conf isn't empty and some programs doesn't launch correctly, please report too. Please report precisely which nvidia driver version (nvidia-current 325.15, 304.119 or 173.14.39) is used, which arch (i586, x86_64), and which program works or not. Thanks in advance, Luc
Yes my pkcs11.conf was empty. renaming it fixed this problem, as for kwrite and kate. Details: https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11946#c39

x86_64 nvidia-current 325.15 On an upgrade from Mageia 3 the pkcs11.conf file is empty, but everything works fine. Booting with Mageia 4 Live_DVD (KDE) the pkcs11.conf is empty, but kwrite and kdenlive won't appear on the desktop (process is running). Renaming this file both programs work fine.
This should be fixed since 5 days with the p11-kit updates: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_4_Errata#nvidia_proprietary_drivers Please reopen if problem persists.
