Upgrading to 2.0.5 would also fix bug 6115 (audio sync problems with pulseaudio).

Yes, the sync problem seems to be fixed with VLC 2.0.6. :)
I upgraded to VLC 2.0.6 and When I play an AVI, arose box errors: "Potential PulseAudio version problem: PulseAudio is streaming with an excessive latency. Sound may be lost or quality degraded. To address that issue, upgrade the PulseAudio daemon to version 3.0, or disable the alternate sampling rate in its configuration."
I'm also having problems with encoding of subtitles. I've tried all options that VLC offers and all accented words appear (?) In place of the accented letter. Happened to anyone? How to solve it?
I am using the VLC to repository Tainted Updates Testing; I ran VLC with -- verbose to see the error, put down the principal errors: [0x7fb4ec004108] pulse audio output warning: too early by 46084 us [0x7fb4ec004108] pulse audio output warning: too early by 41638 us [0x7fb4e4c39758] subsdec decoder error: failed to convert subtitle encoding. Try manually setting a character-encoding before you open the file. [0x7fb4e4c39758] subsdec decoder error: failed to convert subtitle encoding. Try manually setting a character-encoding before you open the file.
@Andreson Carvalho: do these problems also happen with the older vlc? Pulseaudio is a can of worms and I always disable it, because it never works properly.
With VLC 2.0.3 the error box never opened. However, I did downgrade to VLC 2.0.3 to test with the same file. Also had trouble with character-encoding subtitle: [0x7f9d20004108] main audio output warning: PTS is out of range (-31989), dropping buffer [0x7f9d20004108] pulse audio output warning: underflow [0x7f9d20004108] main audio output warning: PTS is out of range (-13982), dropping buffer [0x7f9d20004108] main audio output warning: PTS is out of range (-37910), dropping buffer [0x7f9cfc000d58] main video output warning: picture is too late to be displayed (missing 40 ms) [0x7f9d14c1f978] subsdec decoder error: failed to convert subtitle encoding. Try manually setting a character-encoding before you open the file. [0x7f9d14c1f978] subsdec decoder error: failed to convert subtitle encoding. Try manually setting a character-encoding before you open the file. When I use smplayer it has the option Ocidental(ISO-8859-1) and the accents are correct. However, VLC offers only Default(Windows-1252) that does not work accents. It takes some package or configuration to work (Windows-1252) in Linux?
(In reply to Frédéric Buclin from comment #3) > Yes, the sync problem seems to be fixed with VLC 2.0.6. :) I take that back. After rebooting my PC, the sync problem is back, and the error mentioned in comment 4 is thrown when playback starts. :(
This is crazy. When the "Contrôle du volume PulseAudio" panel is open, the playback is in sync when a new song starts. If I close the panel, the playback is out of sync again when the next song starts. If I reopen the panel, the playback is in sync again for the next song, etc... No need to restart VLC, just let it loop over songs. 100% reproducible. So my workaround for now is to leave the PulseAudio Volume Control panel minimized, but this is a weird workaround.
VLC 2.0.6 is in the update_testing repo (core and tainted) but it doesn't appear in the list of Current update candidates : http://mageia.madb.org/tools/updates You might have more testers if it is in this list ...

Can I push the VLC-2.0.6 update to Mageia 2? Regards, -- Shlomi Fish
It has to be assigned to qa-bugs@ml.mageia.org before qa will test the update. Once it's been assigned, then it have to be tested on both i586 and x86_64, and in this case, both with the release version, and the tainted version, before the update can be validated, and qa will then request the update to be pushed.

Assigning to QA per https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9155#c13 . Please test.

Reminder to other testers, this update has to be tested on both arches, both the core updates testing version, and the tainted updates testing verison.
