Description Frédéric "LpSolit" Buclin 2011-04-13 19:47:22 CEST
I just tried to install Mageia beta1 in VirtualBox 4.0.4. The installation succeeded, but all I have after rebooting is the command-line console. When I try to run startx, I get:

"(EE) VBoxVideo(0): Unable to determine whether the virtual machine supports mouse pointer integration - request initialization failed with return code -4
xinit: connection to X server lost

waiting for X server to shut down"

As I have several other Linux distros installed in VirtualBox (Mandriva Cooker, Fedora, Kubuntu), I know it should work.

Installing x11-driver-input-vboxmouse didn't help. I still get the error above. :(

What version is the vbox host?

Also what DE did you install, and from which install media?

Priority: release_blocker => High

Comment 3 Frédéric "LpSolit" Buclin 2011-04-14 00:31:10 CEST
vbox host is 4.0.4, as mentioned in comment 0.

The desktop environment is KDE, installed from the Dual arch CD.
Comment 4 Ahmad Samir 2011-04-14 02:24:10 CEST
You added the online sources to install KDE? the dual arch CD only has LXDE on the ISO.

I didn't, no. The installer offered me to choose between KDE, LXDE, GNOME and others. I selected KDE. If KDE is not available, then the installer shouldn't let me select it.

A duplicate then.
