Description Quel Qun 2012-04-22 22:22:07 CEST
Description of problem: No wi-fi.

After a GNOME install from the 64bit DVD, wi-fi is not functional. With drakconnect, I got: "unable to find a network interface for selected device (using iwlwifi)."

I saw this in messages:

kernel: [ 12.287605] iwlwifi 0000:03:00.0: request for firmware file 'iwlwifi-6050-5.ucode' failed.
kernel: [ 12.287883] iwlwifi 0000:03:00.0: request for firmware file 'iwlwifi-6050-4.ucode' failed.
kernel: [ 12.287888] iwlwifi 0000:03:00.0: no suitable firmware found!

I manually installed iwlwifi-6050-ucode, but still get a failure with drakconnect:

Not sure what is missing, but this device works fine in Fedora 16.

We don't provide nonfree stuff in the dvd. SO you need to enable the nonfree repository and install iwlwifi-6050-ucode (drakconnect can also help you)

Status: NEW => UNCONFIRMED
Component: Installer => RPM Packages
Ever confirmed: 1 => 0

Comment 2 Quel Qun 2012-04-23 18:46:32 CEST
That is one of the points, drakconnect did _not_ help me. I had to figure out the missing rpm by myself by digging out the error from the syslog and search for it on the web.

The second point is of course that it still does not work.
Comment 3 Quel Qun 2012-04-23 18:48:41 CEST
Note that drakconnect did not help me even though the non-free and tainted repositories were enabled when I tried to use it.
Comment 4 Manuel Hiebel 2012-04-24 00:39:16 CEST
yep indeed sorry, it should be fixed soon (all iwlwifi bugs talking about missing firmware are the same)
