Description Mike Rambo 2025-07-28 17:17:05 CEST
My mga9 machine updated from nvidia-current-550.163.01-1 to nvidia-current-570.172.08-2 a couple of days ago. I noticed immediately that my main web browser (Vivaldi) no long launched (hung and had to be killed). The latest version launches but is quite slow. I also noticed since then that steam games have randomly crashed a few times when it had not done so before. Also, I let my machine sleep instead of shutting down and have found that it also will no longer wake up the display at resume. I have to hit ctrl-alt-backspace a couple of times to get the display to wake up which of course also puts me back at a login prompt.

Performing urpmi --downgrade to nvidia-current-550.163.01-1 fixes all of the above. I notice that the new package is nvidia570 whereas the old is nvidia550. Don't know if this is related. I know it's subjective but the system even feels sluggish with the new driver and feels much snappier with the old one.

The hardware is Acer Veriton M4618G with Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz
and 16G ram. Video card lspci -vv data follows...
