Description of problem: Some internet weatherfax providers from NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration of USA) have modified the path to their data : https://manati.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/ https://aviationweather-cprk.ncep.noaa.gov/ this was reported here https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=32739#c15 The addresses in 2 files of the opencpn-weatherfax-plugin need to be updated : /usr/share/opencpn/plugins/weatherfax_pi/data/ WeatherFaxInternetRetrieval_Aviation_Weather.xml and /usr/share/opencpn/plugins/weatherfax_pi/data/ WeatherFaxInternetRetrieval_EUMetSat_ASCAT.xml The devs of this plugin are working on it WeatherFaxInternetRetrieval_Aviation_Weather.xml is already OK https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=32739#c24 but WeatherFaxInternetRetrieval_EUMetSat_ASCAT.xml needs still some work When these two files will be ready, I will provide an update with those files
this bug was first reported here : https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=32739#c9 unfortunately the .xml files of opencpn-weatherfax-plugin need frequently to be adapted to the changes inside the internet-weatherfax providers site and the WeatherFaxSchedules.xml file already needed to be adapted to the changes of the frequency and time of the radio fax providers (fortunately this file seems to be up to date for some time now)
Thank you as usual for your watchful eye & work on opencpn. Since you are effectively the maintainer of this pkg, and already working on it, assigning to you. When it is ready, please suggest how it might be tested - even if only to check that a certain file contains certain key information.

Bad news from aviationweather.gov (a site of NOAA) The site https://aviationweather-cprk.ncep.noaa.gov/ is discontinued We will have to remove /usr/share/opencpn/plugins/weatherfax_pi/data/ WeatherFaxInternetRetrieval_Aviation_Weather.xml from the rpm :-( Here is my question : Category: Bug Subject: https://aviationweather-cprk.ncep.noaa.gov/ not reachable I have tried several times to go to this site https://aviationweather-cprk.ncep.noaa.gov/ to download satellite images I could do this in january 2024 but that seems no more possible has this address been changed ? or this site is temporarily not reachable ? And here is the answer Hi Philippe, Please note that the URL for our website changed on October 16th as part of a major website upgrade. The new address is https://aviationweather.gov (note the lack of "www'). If you are using a link which contains "cprk" or "bldr", those links will no longer work. They have not been operationally supported since October 16th and the servers were fully decommissioned last week. Please update your links to use the new site. We have a URL migration guide available at https://aviationweather.gov/help/#url and a video tutorial for the new site at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sdkx3UWeflI . As part of the website upgrade, the static satellite images have been discontinued. This is because the new website is centered around an interactive and fully customized map, and the satellite imagery has been incorporated into that map. To view satellite imagery on the new site, click the "Weather" menu at the top of the screen, then click "Observations". After the map loads, click the layer icon in the upper right corner of the map. This is where you can turn on/off the satellite imagery and switch between different types such as visible, IR, and water vapor. Additional customization settings are available by clicking the gear icon to open the settings menu (press the blue “close” button to apply any changes). Kind regards, Lewis Kanofsky

Summary: Some internet weatherfax providers have modified the path to their data => opencpn-weatherfax-plugin needs to be modified : NOAA doesn't provide anymore aviationweather faxes
An update of opencpn-weatherfax-plugin is inside updates_testing correcting this bug : https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=32782#c3 ------------------------------- Bugfix Advisory ------------------------------ Since january the US National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) doesn't provide anymore aviationweather faxes This addresses need to be removed from the plugin Some typos in ASCAT addresses preventing to get some faxes are corrected ---------------------------------- SRPM opencpn-weatherfax-plugin-1.9.110.1-4.git20231106.mga9 RPMs for each arches opencpn-weatherfax-plugin-1.9.110.1-4.git20231106.mga9 ---------------------------------- To test this Before the update - opencpn-weatherfax-plugin proposes aviationweather faxes but you can't get them - you can't get ASCAT faxes for San Fracisco and Charleston after the update - opencpn-weatherfax-plugin doesn't propose aviationweather faxes - you can get ASCAT faxes for San Fracisco and Charleston NB inside the ASCAT faxes the wind arrows don't cover the whole square window it's normal and due to the way the satellites function : they draw alternate strips around the globe (I will attach two pictures to explain this)
Source RPM: opencpn-weatherfax-plugin-1.9.110.1-3.git20231106.mga9 => opencpn-weatherfax-plugin-1.9.110.1-4.git20231106.mga9
Created attachment 14407 [details] one coverage by the satellites The satellites need several passage to cover the whole planet Each passage generates strips of images the squares on this world map draw the limits of the faxes we can get at the date and time we download them These squares may be partially fulfilled see next attachment
Created attachment 14408 [details] ASCAT fax covering Greece As you may see, the wind arrows cover only two strips on the fax it's the normal behaviour A fax got later will have only one strip fulfilled covering the sea in the south of Peloponnese
Summary: opencpn-weatherfax-plugin needs to be modified : NOAA doesn't provide anymore aviationweather faxes => opencpn-weatherfax-plugin needs to be updated : NOAA doesn't provide anymore aviationweather faxes
PS This may be proposed to QA as soon as the rpms are uploaded to the repos (they are already built by the BS)

MGA9-64 Plasma Wayland on HP Pavillion No installation issues overwriting previous version. Beats me how to test this, I looked at previous update, but I see no icon in the iconbar, not do I have a clue how to "activate" this. Video from Google does not help either since this demonstrates the use in some unspecified geo-application.

Hi Herman You need to activate this plugin : In the menu bar choose "tools" ("Outils" in French) When it's unfold choose "options" then choose "plugins" ("Compléments" in French) then activate the WeatherFax plugin by clicking its button Then click the button "apply" and "OK" in the bottom of the plugins window the icon of weatherfax will appear in the icons bar (I will attach this icon) Click on the icon => a little window appears in this window click on "retrieve" ("récupérer" in French) choose "internet" a new wider window appears in the list of providers : there's no more AviationWeather choose ASCAT B in the list of ASCAT B regions choose San Francisco in the upper part select one of the two (Metop B ascending or descending) then click on "selected" a new window appear with a stripe of wind arrows over the ocean in the region of San Francisco

@Philippe I'm still missing something Tools Options occurs in a lot of programs, which one are you refering to???
You can't test this plugin outside of OpenCPN ! First step : launch OpenCPN... and then you can follow what I explain in https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=32782#c11
Looking further around, I realized opencpn is an application on its own. Follwing your guidelines, I got a window of part of the North Sea. Tried San Francisco as well. So as far as I see, this works OK.

Maybe an error in the advisory It's indeed opencpn-weatherfax-plugin-1.9.110.1-4.git20231106.mga9 as it was written in comment 5 and comment 9
