Description of problem: this openCPN plugin has been improved since opencpn-8.2.4 was packaged it brings an updated list of meteo radio stations and internet sites to get faxes or charts it's built on the last audiofile package (correcting security problems) this new version is updates_testing Updated package in /core/updates_testings ========================================= opencpn-weatherfax-plugin-1.9.110.1-3.git20231106.mga9 for each arch from SRPM opencpn-weatherfax-plugin-1.9.110.1-3.git20231106.mga9.src.rpm This package needs to be tested on the opencpn version from core/updates (opencpn-5.8.4-2)
Typo : you may read This package needs to be tested on the opencpn version from core/release (opencpn-5.8.4-2) instead of This package needs to be tested on the opencpn version from core/updates (opencpn-5.8.4-2)
If you, Philippe, could give a pointer to testing it... But thanks yet again for your sterling work on this application. And yes, a bit late, it would have been better to bundles all these updates in one bug. But carry on as-is.

to test it you simply have to verify that the update is done without any problem Then click on its icon inside the icons bar a window appears allowing to choose a meteo radio station to get faxes or to download a file from an internet meteo server

Mageia9, x86_64 Clean update. Icon appeared in the menu when the plugin was enabled. That showed the download choice window. Chose a radio-station in Seoul.

Hmmm, might be an issue with this. Loads the weatherfax popup OK.lick on retrieve, click on Internet Ha - on first try I got to select a download and it killed opencpn. Trying to replicate this just now, I didn't actually get to click on 'Internet' as above before opencpn died. I've never seen opencpn just die like this. Try3: Went further, got to select a download which failed in its download - see attachments

So, where are we with this? I'm not sure. Opencpn is still running on this try3 after 5 min or so with weatherfax enabled, whereas earlier crashes occurred at about 30 sec and then at about 15 sec. Time for someone else to see if this is an issue.

well, that worked for Philippe. Don't know why it didn't find my (fast0 internet connection. Perhaps I had it misconfigured in some other way. My crashes of opencpn were a worry however.
Hi Tony You first have to choose an internet provider attachment 14283 [details] 1) in the little window click on "récupérer" then internet 2) then in the wide window opened choose an internet meteo provider (German Weather DWD) 3) then select an hour in the list in the top part of the window 4) then click on the button "récupérer" under this list 5) a window appears hiding OpenCPN displaying the meteo chart that you have downloaded attachment 14284 [details] 6) You can close this window : OpenCPN is now visible 7) You can close the 2 weatherfax remaining windows You may verify that the downloaded *.png file is in /home/yourname/.opencpn/plugins/weatherfax/ At least this functions perfectly for me I can't test a radio provider since I have no radio connected to my computer at home
Hi again Tony In your first attachment 14279 [details] I can see that you have not selected one area on the upper list Nothing to download then !!!! But the warning attachment 14280 [details] informs you that you failed to download Indian Ocean and Oceania Nevertheless I am gonna try this Aviation Weather site and verify its URL
Hi again indeed aviationweather.gov doesn't provide anymore satellite observations img They only provide faxes now It's the only site that doesn't function for Weatherfax We must modify the xml file of the servers: it's an upstream problem now There will be an update as soon as possible Nevertheless that doesn't prevent Weatherfax to use normally the other providers
Issue reported upstream https://github.com/rgleason/weatherfax_pi/issues/162
Aviation was a bad choice on my part - (old piloting skills) Confirmed the others work OK
hi Tony You catched something useful about aviationweather data no more downloadable Indeed some weatherfax-plugin contributors have noticed this recent problem too... They are working to provide a corrected .xml file ... Unfortunately that's not the first time that meteo internet providers modify their site (this problem has already existed too in the past for meteo radio transmitters modifying their frequency or hours of transmission) This will need soon a new update :-( But this new update will be easy to test since the only file modified in the source code will be /data/WeatherFaxInternetRetrieval_Aviation_Weather.xml which is simply copied by the rpm installation inside : /usr/share/opencpn/plugins/weatherfax_pi/data/
Hi again Tony If you want to test on your side the modified WeatherFaxInternetRetrieval_Aviation_Weather.xml file I will attach a zip file with it inside NB the WeatherFaxInternetRetrieval_EUMetSat_ASCAT.xml file from this zip still needs some modifications As root you can copy this WeatherFaxInternetRetrieval_Aviation_Weather.xml inside /usr/share/opencpn/plugins/weatherfax_pi/data/ overwriting the present one
Created attachment 14285 [details] zip file for Tony to test the use of data from aviationweather.gov This zip file contains an updated WeatherFaxInternetRetrieval_Aviation_Weather.xml allowing weatherfax to download again data from aviationweather.gov
Created attachment 14286 [details] zip file WeatherFaxInternetRetrieval_Aviation_Weather.xml works Works like a dream - see attached pic
Thanks Tony I tested this too it's OK here too Gonna inform the main dev of weatherfax-plugin Nevertheless he waits for an other improvement of WeatherFaxInternetRetrieval_EUMetSat_ASCAT.xml from the zip before updating the plugin
@ Tony I will create a bug report about the modifed path to data inside aviationweather.gov And provide a patch to correct WeatherFaxInternetRetrieval_Aviation_Weather.xml and WeatherFaxInternetRetrieval_EUMetSat_ASCAT.xml too when this part of the zip will have been completely corrected (this second file is still a work in progress to test)
