Description Yann Ciret 2011-03-10 07:23:07 CET
Description of problem:

Launch an application in KDE, eg Konsole.

In Menu, you see it as Konsole, with Terminal as description.
In Last used applications list, you see Terminal, with Konsole as description.

Last used applications list should use the same way as menu.

In fact it seems to be a « feature ».
From a quick look there's no settings in Application Launcher Menu Settings so you can have the same layout in Menu & Recently Used apps, in the better case you can end with a
Terminal (Konsole) in Recently Used Applications & Konsole(Terminal) in the Menu.
Maybe it should be reported upstream, dmorgan ?

For information, in Mandriva 2010.1/2010.2, display in Last used applications list is the same as the menu.
Comment 4 John Balcaen 2011-05-07 14:13:24 CEST
can you add a screenshot of the 2010.1 ?
(also it's not the same KDE SC version so upstream changes can affect it :/ )
Comment 5 Luc Menut 2011-05-07 14:39:04 CEST
It's probably an upstream bug. It affects also Favorites.
Name and description are always reversed; if you choose "Description only" instead of "Name only", you will have Description in the Applications (good), and Name in last used applications and favorites (bad).

this commit can be the problem, but I don't have time to verify now.

please could you report this bug upstream.

Could anybody PLEASE fix this? All the guys that I suggested Mageia to complain about his - and rightly so, because it simply makes the Mageia team look like Noobs! I know they aren't, but those guys (that I suggested Mageia to) don't. Surely it can't be too hard to simply make the menu show the name instead of the description?

Did you read comment #5 before ?
Reversing the commit pointed by L Menut reopens bug #241736 so it's not easy as expected.
However if you do have a distribution not affected by that i'll be please to have a look to check how they fix it.

When searching upstream, no matter what search string I use, I always end up getting 200 of many more links :(

Anyone willing to show here how this should be done?

BTW, the bug still exists in Cauldron

@ Mikala
Are you good at searching upstream KDE bug reports?

I found zero bugs at bugs.kde.org, when I searched for ALL bugs with https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=323 in the URL or in a comment.

But that doesn't mean the bug wasn't reported upstream by someone else.

I mentionned the patch in kde review board only to report that there is WIP on this bug.
But, I would prefer that we wait to have feedback from the Plasma team before applying the patch in Mageia (at least for an update in Mga 1).
