Description christian barranco 2022-12-24 21:05:17 CET
Description of problem:
It is not possible to play sound (browsers especially) after updating to Kernel 5.15.82.
Booting on 5.15.79 solves the issue. Accidentally booting on 5.15.82 confirmed the sound doesn't play.

How reproducible: every time on Dell Inspiron 3501 i5-1135G7, ntel Tiger Lake-LP Smart Sound Audio

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot on kernel 5.15.82
2. Open a browser (Chromium or Firefox) and trying to play a video on YouTube, for instance.

Thank you for the report, and the machine sound information.
"It is not possible to play sound (browsers especially)"
Please confirm whether this is browser-related, or applies system-wide to all sound.

Assigning to kernel.

Hi. I confirm it looks like it is system wide: no start-up sound, no sound with VLC and Clementine playing a mp3 file.

Thanks.

Comment 4 christian barranco 2022-12-25 21:04:27 CET
Hi again. I have taken an old inxi output.
Of course, the Sound Server is Alsa v: k5.15.79... or k5.15.82...
Comment 5 Manuel Hiebel 2022-12-27 17:49:24 CET
same issue
if I kill of pulseaudio with for example pkill -9 pulseaudio
it works until no sound asked again

same issue on archlinux
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=281830

(I moved to cauldron but have now some other sound issue so could not help more to debug this)

The issue is identified upstream and fixes should land soon-ish in the stable trees
Comment 7 Thomas Backlund 2023-01-01 12:37:54 CET
Please try kernel-5.15.86-1.mga8 that is now in Core Updates Testing
Comment 8 Morgan Leijström 2023-01-01 23:19:13 CET
FWIW running desktop kernel-5.15.86, will tell if i see any regression.

Hi. Booting on 5.15.86 restores the sound. Same behavior as with 5.15.79.
Thanks Thomas!
