There is a USB3 PCI card in the machine. $ lspci 03:00.0 USB controller: Renesas Technology Corp. uPD720201 USB 3.0 Host Controller (rev 03) It still worked well with the previous 5.10.48 kernel, and if I load it it still works, But not with the newer 5.10.52 anymore. It says at the beginning of the boot that it cannot load the firmware: Direct firmware load for renesas_usb_fw.mem failed with error -2 Here is the relevant journalctl -b0 detail: xhci_hcd 0000:03:00.0: Direct firmware load for renesas_usb_fw.mem failed with error -2 xhci_hcd 0000:03:00.0: request_firmware failed: -2 xhci_hcd: probe of 0000:03:00.0 failed with error -2

Yeah, there is a broken patch in upstream stable kernels that I reverted in 5.13 series kernels, but I missed that it also had been backported to 5.10 series in 5.10.50 :( I will revert it for next kernel build
There is now a kernel-5.10.53-1.mga8 in Core Updates Testing that you can try
