Kernel: 5.10.55-server-1.mga8 x86_64
10-Core Intel Core i9-7900X
NVIDIA GP102 [GeForce GTX 1080 Ti] driver: nvidia v: 460.84

Installed desktop and server versions.
Server version running fine with nvidia graphics. Bluetooth and NFS OK.
Busy removing a slew of older kernels before rebooting to the desktop kernel.

Virtualbox working on server and desktop kernels, 64-bit and 32-bit clients.
Simultaneous stress tests OK.
$ glmark2 -b refract
Works fine.
Leaving this up as the production desktop.

Quad Core Intel Core i7-4790
NVIDIA GM204 [GeForce GTX 970] driver: nvidia v: 460.84

Installed the server kernel at the same time.
Desktop working normally. Ran stress tests and graphical applications. Bluetooth and NFS shares OK. Installed virtualbox and booted a mga7 32-bit client on an external SSD in a USB enclosure. Set up the soft link from 'VirtualBox VMs' to the VDIs folder on the external drive.

Mga8-64 OK here, i7, Plasma

With new mesa-21.1.6-1 of Bug 29310

Hardware: My workstation "svarten": Mainboard: Sabertooth P67, CPU: i7-3770, RAM 16G, GM107 [GeForce GTX 750] using nvidia-current; GeForce 635 series and later, 4k display. Disk&Filesystem: SSD with /boot/EFI and ext4 /boot, LUKS{LVM {swap, ext4 /home & / } and a spinner at /mnt/spinner

dkms status tells me VirtualBox and nvidia-current are OK.
BOINC detects CUDA and OpenCL

Plasma desktop, using Thunderbird, LibreOffice, Ktorrent, Nextcloud client, Firefox ESR, flatpak Firefox...
Stress test: While working with other things BOINC use all cores to 100%, videos do not stutter in Chrome, nor Firefox ESR but do in flatpak version.

VirtualBox 6.1.24-2.3 running MSW7 64 bit OK: graphics, window resize, bidirectional clipboard, drag file from Dolphin to Explorer, folder sharing write protected and not, folder sharing, USB2 with plugin from upstream using USB stick, internet video playing in Firefox and Chrome - host BOINC app use 7 of 8 cores, video do not stutter.

Keep using this as my work system.

Comment 7 Herman Viaene 2021-08-02 14:12:28 CEST
Using QArepo and MCC to install the server version. When selecting the kernel-server, I get:
To fulill dependencies, following packages are needed:

- kernel-server-5.13.4-1.mga8-1-1.mga8.x86_64
- kernel-server-latest-5.13.4-1.mga8.x86_64

Which is rubbish and blocks the installation.

Comment 8 Morgan Leijström 2021-08-02 14:59:52 CEST
@ Herman, yes as we have both hit before.
discussed in mailing list 2021-06-17
"[qa-discuss] Kerrnel-server-5.10.43 and virtualbox"

IIRC one workaround is to remove, not only inactivate, backport and backport_testing repos.
Comment 9 Herman Viaene 2021-08-02 15:27:16 CEST
@Morgan
Removing the backport repos might be a workaround for testing this update, but I do not agree to release this update in this form to the general public.
Comment 10 Herman Viaene 2021-08-02 15:42:08 CEST
Even that does not help :
This laptop had kernel-desktop before, now installing kernel-server.
Now when selecting kernel-server, I get:
Following packages have to be removed for others to be upgraded:
basesystem-8-0.4.mga8.x86_64
 (because missing basesystem-minimal)
basesystem-minimal-8-0.4.mga8.x86_64
 (because missing basesystem-minimal-core)
basesystem-minimal-core-8-0.4.mga8.x86_64
 (because missing mageia-release >= 1)
etc ... including drakconf

that sounds like you are trying to install an 32bit kernel on a 64bit install
Comment 12 Herman Viaene 2021-08-02 15:59:53 CEST
Checked file names in QARepo, all are mga8.x86_64.rpm except the kernel-do of course.
Comment 13 Thomas Backlund 2021-08-02 16:07:42 CEST
did you remove 32bit backports and backports_testing too ?
Comment 14 Thomas Backlund 2021-08-02 16:37:30 CEST
putting on hold, new kernels coming to fix more spectre security issues.

Moved to another partition.
$ uname -r
5.10.41-desktop-1.mga8

Selected desktop kernel. Dropped source.
Rebooted to Mate with nvidia graphics. System state restored.

Kernel: 5.10.56-desktop-1.mga8 x86_64
10-Core Intel Core i9-7900X
GeForce GTX 1080 Ti/PCIe/SSE2
NVIDIA 460.84

Usual tests passed OK but disk read/write stress test ran for a long time again.
Installed bluez and blueman. Difficulty connecting to new audio device - needed a reboot. All is well now.

Installed both server and desktop kernels; 309 packages because this parition has not been visited for a while. Reboot was restarted to change the display driver to nouveau.
Kernel: 5.10.56-server-1.mga8 x86_64
Mobo: MSI model: Z97-G43 (MS-7816)

The disk stress test continued well beyond the assigned time, so this is a consistent problem across machines for this kernel.
teapot runs at the maximum frame rate of 30 Hz.
No problems with virtualbox.
Installed blueman and set up bluetooth audio. pavucontrol registered the bluetooth portable speaker OK.

Letting this run for a day or two.

Advisory, added to svn:

type: security
subject: Updated kernel packages fix security vulnerabilities
CVE:
 - CVE-2021-34556
 - CVE-2021-35477
src:
  8:
   core:
     - kernel-5.10.56-1.mga8
     - kmod-virtualbox-6.1.24-1.4.mga8
     - kmod-xtables-addons-3.18-1.16.mga8
description: |
This kernel update is based on upstream 5.10.56 and fixes atleast the
  following security issues:

In the Linux kernel through 5.13.7, an unprivileged BPF program can
obtain sensitive information from kernel memory via a Speculative Store
Bypass side-channel attack because the protection mechanism neglects the
possibility of uninitialized memory locations on the BPF stack
  (CVE-2021-34556).

In the Linux kernel through 5.13.7, an unprivileged BPF program can
obtain sensitive information from kernel memory via a Speculative Store
Bypass side-channel attack because a certain preempting store operation
does not necessarily occur before a store operation that has an
  attacker-controlled value (CVE-2021-35477).

  Other fixes in this update:
  - btrfs: fix lost inode on log replay after mix of fsync, rename and
    inode eviction
  - btrfs: fix race causing unnecessary inode logging during link and rename
  - watchdog: iTCO_wdt: Fix detection of SMI-off case (fixes sporadic reboots
    on some systems)
  - Revert "ACPICA: Fix memory leak caused by _CID repair function", fixing
    boot failures on some systems
  - fix another ACPI issue causing some systems to boot slowly or not at all
    after kernel 5.10.50
  - revert: 'scsi: sr: Return appropriate error code when disk is ejected'
(fixes DVD opening on resume from suspend or standby, mga #29262)
  - Revert "usb: renesas-xhci: Fix handling of unknown ROM state"
(fixes renesas usb pci stopped working, mga #29285)
  - Revert "drm/i915: Propagate errors on awaiting already signaled fences"
and "drm/i915/gem: Asynchronous cmdparser" (fixes an issue where an
app hang can cause X server to hang)

For other upstream fixes, see the referenced changelogs.
