Description Pierre Jarillon 2019-12-14 21:29:05 CET
I have encounter locks on reboot after upgrading mga6 to mga7.

With several migrations from mga6 to mga7, I had this lock when rebooting. The lock occurs before sddm. I have good reasons to think that this happens with video drivers.
On the last case, I could investigate and I have found a nvidia430 installed.
With a fresh install (new disk) on the same machine nvida390 was installed.

An update from a DVD or a USB-key doesn't repair.
Drakx11 from recovery mode tried to install nvidia390 without success.

From recovery mode I did:
        # urpme `rpm -qa "*nvidia*"`
Then, with drakx11, I could installed nvidia390 and I have manually put
"nvidia" in xorg.conf because I have tried nouveau before.

And the boot is now perfect...

I have now access at 2 machines which had the same problem.
On these machines lspcidrake gives:
Card:NVIDIA GeForce 420 to GeForce 630: NVIDIA Corporation|GF108 [GeForce GT 730] [DISPLAY_VGA] (rev: a1)
Card:NVIDIA GeForce 420 to GeForce 630: NVIDIA Corporation|GF108 [GeForce GT 440] [DISPLAY_VGA] (rev: a1)

Note that in both cases "GeForce 420 to GeForce 630" is the driver selected.
This is perhaps related to:
Bug 21274 - Problem upgrading to Mageia 6 with NVIDIA driver

Thank you Pierre for the report and your findings.

This bug is very similar to bug 24967 esp
 https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24967#c3
both of which deal with chosen nvidia 430 not working and needing nvidia 390 to work.

Bug 25826 is similar in spirit: chosen nvidia 390 does not work, needs nvidia 340 to work.

Can these be wrapped up together?

Another upgrade which had a problem perhaps related:

Card 8100 to Gforce 415:NVIdia Corporation | GT216 [Geforce GT220] Display _VGA (rev:a2).
This happened to the owner the firstday when the red triangle was setup. I have used a DVD to repair) .

Mageia 7 is EOL since July 1st 2021.
There will not have any further bugfix for this release.

You are encouraged to upgrade to Mageia 8 as soon as possible.

@reporter, if this bug still apply with Mageia 8, please let us know it.

@packager, if you work on the Mageia 7 version of your package, please check the Mageia 8 package if issue is also present. In this case, please fix the Mageia 8 version instead.

This bug report will be closed OLD if there is no further notice within 1st September 2021.

Hi bug reporter and hi assignee and others involved,

Please reopen this bug report if it is still valid for Mageia 8 or 9(cauldron), and change "Version:" in the upper left of this report accordingly.

This report is being closed as OLD because it was filed against Mageia 7, for which support ended on June 30th 2021.

Thanks,
Marja
