Assigning to kernel group as this is very much in the same field as:
 https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22354
"Billion BiPAC 3010A USB Wireless Adapter WiFi Dongle AC not working since mageia 6 kernel update in mageia 6"
which is thus assigned.

Comment 4 ian trump 2019-07-07 10:45:54 CEST
Hi, on investigation in mageia 7 the billion nic adapter has 2 different configuration modes of which neither work when trying to configure, while in mageia 6.1 there is only a reference for one mode which is able to be configure and work.

I have typed iwconfig in the terminals for both mageia 6.1 and mageia 7 and below are the results.

1) Mageai 6.1

enp12s0u2  IEEE 802.11an  ESSID:"Billion-AP-5g"  Nickname:"<WIFI@REALTEK>"

2) Mageia 7

enp10s0   no wireless extensions.

The Billion 3010A Adapter is able to operate at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Frequencies, including , b, g, n, and ac modes when required.
Comment 5 ian trump 2019-07-14 18:16:12 CEST
When trying to connect through the network centre it times out and a Wi-Fi password dialogue appears and asks me to enter the password to access the wireless network for the Billion AP-5 g NIC adapter.

I have already entered the password in the network centre and now it is asking for the password again. I enter the password and press OK and some time later I get asked for the password again. I believe the problem may be at this point as to why there is no wireless network connection.

I have also tried 2 other usb WiFi adapters from different manufacturers and they also have the same problem where they can not connect in Mageia 7.

I can however use all of these usb WiFi adapters to work correctly in Mageia 6.1 without any problems

I have two older wifi adapters and they work in mageia 7.1 with updates recently given.

The Billion 3010A NIC still fails to connect. In mageia 6.1 the adapter is recognised in the mageia control centre as enp11s0u2 only.
In mageia 7.1 it is recognised with two identities which are wlan0 and wlp0s22f2u1.

The two cards that work in both mageia 6.1 and 7.1 and are recognised with the same identities so the billion 3010A adapter looks like it is not configured correctly.

Status comment: kernel updated to 5.1.20 and still no coonection => If no resolution is found for bug 25036 please verify and updrade of mageia 7 will be dropprd in favour for the continuation of mageia 6.1.

The billion adapter works perfectly in mageia 6.1 but not in mageia 7 or 7.1.

The network interface used in mageia 6.1 is enp112sou2 and it works at both 2.4 and 5.18 Ghz .

The network interface in mageia 7 and 7.1 appears to have two interfaces (wlsp11s0u2 and wlan0) and both of these fail to connect to the internet for either 2.4 and 5.18 Ghz for the billion USB adapter.

I believe the network connection fails in mageia 7 and 7.1 because the wrong network interface is used for the USB adapter to work correctly.

I had a similar issue in mageia 6 when the kernel was upgraded from 4.9 to 4.14, but when I reported it in bug 22354 it was fixed when mageia 6.1 was released.
