Description Thomas Andrews 2018-03-23 13:43:10 CET
Description of problem: After completing the update to Plasma 5.12.2, the option in Okular to print in color or grayscale on an HP inkjet printer will not override the setting in the HP Device Manager. If the device manager sets the printer to color, Okular prints in color no matter how the Okular option is set, and if the device manger sets printer to grayscale, Okular prints in grayscale.

Other Plasma apps like Gwenview and Kolourpaint do not exhibit this behavior.

Affected hardware: an HP Deskjet 5650 and an HP Officjet 6110, both of which had been installed using MCC prior to the massive update to Plasma 5.12.2. I do not own any non-HP printers, so I can't check to see if they are affected.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

I am labeling this as a 64-bit bug because I do not have these printers connected to a 32-bit Plasma install. However, I seriously suspect the 32-bit version would show the same behavior.

How reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Try to print on an HP printer from Okular 17.12.2 using a color/grayscale setting other than what is set in the HP Device Manager.

To work around the problem, the user can use the HP Device Manager to set the printer to color or grayscale before printing from Okular.

This bug is still valid for Mageia 6. Because of it and a couple of other print-related bugs, I stopped printing from Okular altogether in Mageia 6, using Evince when I wanted to print a pdf instead. Evince is unaffected by this problem.

This bug is not valid for Mageia 7. As of today, Plasma 5.15.1 seems to fix all of the printing issues I had with Okular in Mageia 6.

It would seem then that the way to fix this bug in Mageia 6 would be to update Plasma, and that's something that's not likely to happen.

I'm inclined to want to change the status of this bug, but none of the available options are exactly appropriate, so for now I will leave it alone. If someone else has a better idea, please feel free to change it.

Mageia 6 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2019-09-30. It is no longer
maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug
fix updates.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan
to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to
a later Mageia version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we
weren't able to fix it before Mageia 6's end of life. If you are able to
reproduce it against a later version of Mageia, you are encouraged to click
on "Version" and change it against that version of Mageia.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent
Mageia release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them
obsolete.

If you would like to help fixing bugs in the future, don't hesitate to join the
packager team via our mentoring program [1] or join the teams that fit you
most [2].
