Description of problem: When printing from Okular or Gwenview, there is no way to set the app to use "Black-only Grayscale" with an HP inkjet printer. You can set it to print in grayscale under the "Options" tab in the print dialog, but that setting uses the color ink cartridge to create the gray image. Non-Plasma apps like The Gimp, LibreOffice, Firefox, and Evince DO let you set that option. The setting is also available in the HP Device Manager. In past versions of Mageia, the "Properties" tab of the selected printer would have a "Device" tab that would let you set this and other printer options for that print job. With Plasma 5.8 apps, the "Device" tab has been replaced with a "Job Options" tab that is considerably less useful. Using only the black cartridge if color isn't necessary is much more economical than using color ink or a combination of color and black ink to produce the image, and has the added benefit of being more waterproof than the color ink. It is important to have this ability back. How reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Try to set an HP inkjet printer to print in "Black-only Grayscale" from Okular or Gwenview

is this bug still valid ?

Yes. I just ran into it again today, in fact. I attempted to print an image from Gwenview in grayscale on my HP Officejet 6110, and the color cartridge was used. I can tell because the color cartridge has one jet clogged at the moment, so "grays" were tinted. If it had been using just the black cartridge, they would not have been.
I was incorrect about the tab labels in "Properties" from M5. The tab that has been changed was labeled "Advanced." Using it allows the user to temporarily change some of the printer's options. Which ones depends on the printer that's installed. Changing the description of this bug to something more... descriptive of the basic problem.
Summary: Print with black cartridge only unavailable in Okular or Gwenview => Okular and Gwenview printer properties dialog showing "Job Options" tab instead of "Advanced."
Created attachment 9191 [details] Screenshot of M6 printer "Properties" dialog from Okular Note the tab labeled "Job Options."

There has been no change since my last comment - this bug is still in effect. I made a sign for my roadside vegetable stand using black text, and it ran and smeared when it got wet, making it useless. Had it only used the black cartridge, it would not have done that. This appears to affect nearly all Plasma apps. Until this is fixed, I will not be using Plasma apps when I want to print something. That's annoying, but doable. I am changing the version from "Cauldron" to "6" because Mageia 6 is now Official.

A year from filing this bug, and nothing's changed. It is still valid in Mageia 6. I'm hoping that something will change when we go to Plasma 5.12, but I'm not holding my breath.
Still valid after updating to Plasma 5.12.2. Moreover, Bug 21688, possibly related, is also still valid. Non-Plasma apps like Evince do not show this behavior, even after the update to Plasma 5.12.2.
can you report this on kde bugzilla please ?
If I am reading it correctly, https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-54464 indicates that the problem was reported some time ago, has been fixed, and a patch is available. To be sure, about 90% or more of what I see there and in other links from there is way, way over my head, so perhaps I am not interpreting it correctly.
I've spent a lot of time working around the "No Advanced Tab" regression(?) in Okular and can use Atril for 2-sided printing, my most common difficulty. However, I keep getting bit quite a lot by Okular defaulting to A4 paper for printing and me forgetting to change to Letter for each and every print job. https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-54464 I'm getting to the same explanation. Other complaints include no way to change the default A4 paper size (I've been through all the suggested gui settings) that wind up at no Advanced tab, where this used to be accomplished, e.g: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1077544-start-0.html https://bugs.gentoo.org/617460 My money's on wait for qt(5)-5.11 or hope for some kindly developer to backport a patch. ;) Thanks.
Appears to be fixed in Cauldron (Mageia 7). In that version, the "Job Options tab is still there, but the "Advanced" tab has been added. Also, in Okular's "Options" tab, the option for color/grayscale is no longer there.
Just to add, in an installation of MGA7 final (64-bit), printing an image from Gwenview defaulted to Letter for page size, so that's looking good.
This bug was filed against Mageia 6, which is now EOL. It is not valid for Mageia 7. Closing it as resolved because it's old.
