Description of problem: Printer setup works exactly as in Mageia 5 with splix - see https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16917 In Mageia 5 printer works. In Cauldron the setup goes as for Mga5 and when 'printing' there are no errors. The print queue shows the print job which then clears as it supposedly prints, but the printer does nothing. Not sure where to look for logs, there was nothing in journalctl that I could see. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): How reproducible: Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
Same in 6dev-1 Can only print by rebooting into Mga5

After re-installing the printer driver (testing a possible fix for https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16917) I am now seeing the same issue in Mageia 5. (details in that bug), so no printing at all now :\

Created attachment 7653 [details] Screenshot showing details of failled job I wonder if anyone can see anything here that helps. The jobs shown in this screen shot did not print. Printer status (on the printer) shows 'Ready 100%'.
OK - it's taken all day but I finally got my printer to work in Mga6. Whether a cups update was coincidental with this I am not sure The main issue was the port setting which is not detected - the URI is blank and no clue is given as to what this should be. With the wrong setting there is no obvious error message displayed so this is difficult to diagnose. The URI that is now working is: serial:/dev/usb/lp1 With cups-drivers-splix installed I can select the correct printer and it works. In Mga5 the situation is similar except that the printer is detected and the wrong driver is suggested. This however can be changed to the correct one (if you realize it is in the list further down) and then it also works. The URI that is used in Mga5 is totally different: usb://Samsung/SCX-4x21%20Series?serial=8P37BABL926239E.&interface=1 The SCX-4x21 Series driver is wrong and I selected the correct SCX-4521F driver from splix, but the wrong name is still in the URI - no idea why. This is a mess.

No change, as reported in Bug#16917
This is still valid. I cannot set up my printer without manually changing the URI to: serial:/dev/usb/lp1 and installing the splix drivers as reported in comment #4.
Related: Bug 16917 - Samsung SCX-4521F printer driver is available in cups-drivers-splix but how is user to know?
