v4l-cx2341x-enc.fw firmware is required by ivtv. It is not in the distribution. I had to import it from IVTV site and place it in the /lib/firmware directory.
Mandriva also has ivtv-firmware-enc. I'm not sure if it's needed or not.

I'm not sure but I don't recall ML2010.2 had the right firmware. I used ivtv-firmware-dec-2.02.023-4.at.i386.rpm since 2005 to install it. I got this from the ivtv web. It did not install in Mageia.
2010.2 has the right firmware, IIRC it's in kernel-firmware-extra, and requires a --replacefiles argument to urpmi as kernel-firmware and kernel-firmware-extra have some filename overlap. It won't work anyway if you use mythtv, it needs patched to use the v4L2 api for the ivtv cards. Kernel 2.6.38+ no longer has v4L1 support, apparently. Other apps and cards/cameras are likely to have similar issues... The Arch Linux bug (including patch for mythtv) is here: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/24354

I would argue that this problem is major and deserves a priority treatment: it makes it impossible for people with ivtv HW using mythtv to use Mageia.

As an added reason to fix it, Mandriva 2011 applied the patch... Still has the traditional Mandriva "funky for a month or so" post-release stability, but mythtv works with ivtv....
could this bug be related to bug #1831 ?
CC: (none) => stormi
Yes, they are related but independent. Mythtv works now (this, bug 1616), but the ivtv firmware is not available in the repos last I checked (bug 1831). I manually installed it in lib/firmware to test.
I think I got the bug report numbers backwards.
Setting version to cauldron to improve the chance that someone will package it. When it is in cauldron, it'll be in the next stable release, but it is also possible to reopen this request for Mga 1, then.

Summary: Hauppauge WinTV PVR-250 => ivtv-firmware, Firmware for the Hauppauge WinTV PVR150/250/350 model series
Since it was in Mdv kernel-firmware-extra, assigning to our kernel maintainer. @ tmb Now that I reread this report, I think it was wrong to regard it as an enhancement request instead of as a plain bug

Please somebody :) Also available fedora, opensuse, debian (as firmware-ivtv)

Borrowed some fw files from fedora srpm and confirmed a haupage card is correctly initiated when they are dropped into /lib/firmware so packaging should be simple.
Thank yo, I had forgotten about this one. I have been manually installing the firmware it seems for ages ;-) Still valid bug in Cauldron.(MGA3b2)
Would you consider becoming a packager Greg and looking after it for Mageia? https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Becoming_a_Mageia_Packager

Thanks Thomas. There is a package ivtv-utils too, I'm not sure if it's still required for the tuner or if that's all part of the kernel now.
ivtv-utils-1.4.0-1.mga3 pushed to Cauldron Core Release
Thankyou for doing this Thomas :)
