Final stage "Installing Bootloader" of last M4beta1 64-bit Live KDE DVD (from USB stick) on an *EFI* box. Not in a position to post to the mailing list. I had installed just prior to this stage with urpmi the following pkg in lieu of simple grub2-efi (as advised for EFI) grub2-efi-2.00-54.1.mga4.x86_64.rpm That went OK. Standard grub2-efi had given me boot problems due to language choice Welsh/Cymraeg which the revised version was hoped to cure. ----------------------------------------------------------------- The "draklive-install" program crashed. I don't understand. You replaced grub2-efi by grub2-efi? Noswaith dda (from Llydaw)
Source RPM: drakxtools => grub2
As for the locale issue, why is cymraeg mixed with french?
Thierry I repeated the installation with English language, French k/b & timezone, in case the problem was language related. Same crash. Comment 1 > I don't understand. You replaced grub2-efi by grub2-efi? A previous version of M4beta1 64-bit KDE Live DVD had installed OK... at the Bootloader screen, -> console, su -, urpmi grub2-efi, exit, choose Grub2 bootloader etc (I install with Cymraeg language, but French timezone & k/b) but failed to boot with a curious msg from Grub "Welcome to GRUB! error: file /boot/grub2/locale/cy.mo.gz" Barry Jackson responded: "I have made a simple (maybe too simple) change in the grub2 spec that adds cy and points it at en. You can test it by installing/updating grub2 from my test mirror by enabling 'extra release' media mtf.no-ip.co.uk/pub/linux/Mageia/distrib/cauldron/x86_64 (or i586) It's version 2.00-54.1" "No, grub2-efi-2.00-54.1.mga4.x86_64.rpm" So to avoid the language related boot failure, during the installation I urpmi'd explicitly Barry's grub2-efi, rather than the normal one. OK? But there remained an unanswered question from me: "Having looked at the EFI installed Mageia4, all the files in /boot/grub2/locale/ are *.mo and NOT *.mo.gz . Will this affect the matter?" > Noswaith dda (from Llydaw) Appreciated that. Regret cannot respond in Llydaweg. Comment 2 > As for the locale issue, why is cymraeg mixed with french? I install with Cymraeg language, but French timezone & k/b. Partly because I am an expatriate Cymro in France, partly to try Mageia non-English to see what happens. This bug is effectively a continuation (duplicate?) of 8886 to which I have just added a long dissertation!

Hi Thierry, I was also bitten by this bug in MGA4 (using locale nl_NL, and a default grub2-efi). Any hints?

I think this bug has been overtaken by events, notably Mageia5; and should be closed as 'historic'. Some suitable category, I know not. Grub EFI difficulties are not the same on M5. The special manipulations of M4 are no longer necessary. The Classic DVD installs and boots OK on my pure EFI box (with ATI/Radeon video; and Win8) after M5a2.1 with certain precautions. Particularly *refusing* proprietary video software; chosing that had led to an UNbootable result. Yes, the installation starts (as it did for M4) with the 2*60 'slow to start' msgs before automatically starting the text installer. I suspect this is a video rather than EFI problem.
As per Lewis's comment 8, I decrease the priority, and for now I'll add it to the EFI issues tracker. We can close it as OLD anytime though, if it's confirmed that this bug is no longer relevant with the new EFI stuff in Mageia 5.

As per Comment 9, this bug is redundant due to big EFI changes for Mageia 5.
