Description of problem: After installation of Mageia Beta 2, I am unable to use the wireless card. I get an error when trying to enable it: "Some packages (rt2860-firmware) are required but aren't available. These packages can be found in non-free, or in the official package repository The following component is missing: /lib/firmware/rt2860.bin" I can get around the problem by running the ethernet cable over to my system and then adding the non-free repo. But what about people that can't easily run a wire to their system, or uncertain how? Should this driver be on the disk, so the network can be enabled easily and conveniently automatically?
The DVD can only have free open source software... however the firmware has been a sticky subject.. I think this bug report will be fixed by a similar solution to the one propose by Wolfgang Bornath in bug 523.
@ Mike Am I correct to think this was still an issue when installing Mageia 1? If so, did you indeed use the DVD?

Hi, Yes I was using Mageia 1 32 bit DVD. In order to get the required wireless firmware I had to connect to the internet on a wire, the firmware is not on the DVD. But I guess that is by current design since the DVD must only contain free open source software. Thanks
IMO a duplicate of 523. If you disagree please reopen with a good argument, thanks :) *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 523 ***
