Description of problem: Using livecd as a demo on a computer is fine But we can't play mp3 from this computer with amarok... (I know there are patent problem) I ) Workaround : 1) We must stop and quit Amarok 2) We must use the CCM to install gstreamer-plugin-ugly and dependencies (but we must know that ...) 3) Then we can use Amarok to read mp3 It would be nice to provide this rpm on the liveCD (it's on the core repo... perhaps had to be in tainted ?) : this would be useful for a beginner ! II )Another workaround : Install phonon-xine and its dependencies Choose it as engine in multimedia menu It may be provided on the liveCD instead of phonon-gstreamer (that would be easier for a beginner too !)
gstreamer0.10-plugin-ugly was added recently as a suggests in phonon-gstreamer. But indeed it's not on the KDE4 live iso.

Same problem with Mageia1 KDE LiveCD but it seems to be an unclear patent issue ! If you use a LiveCD as a demo, and if you want to show that Mageia is able to read mp3 files : you must now first that 1) you need to have a working internet access 2) you need to launch CCM 3) you need to launch rpmdrake 4) you need to add sources 5) you need to choose to add gstreamer-plugins-ugly (which allows to read mp3 files and nevertheless is in core repo but not on the LiveCD ?! ) Then you demonstrate that Mageia is very easy to use for a newbie who surely must know what is missing and how to install it !!! :( More seriously : that's not clearly explained when you try to read a mp3 file : there's a quite useless message ... you may also read this closed bug : Bug 219 I complained on Mandriva Bugzilla for the same problem since Mandriva One 2010.0 (liveCD) ; until 2008.1, LiveCD could read mp3 files out of the box ... for 2009.0 and 2009.1 I don't know : I never could even correctly boot with those LiveCD freezing )
(In reply to comment #3) > Same problem with Mageia1 KDE LiveCD but it seems to be an unclear > patent issue ! Removed the version part in the summary, because I understand the problem is in "1", too. @ Olivier USABILITY was added as keyword. If it can't be fixed because of legal issues, is it possible to have some "can't be avoided" explanation on the Live CD's that helps the user to solve this?
