I thought that the title might be self-explanatory. The installer offers the options to use Grub2 (as with Mageia2, where it worked fine). When I select that option, I get a message saying that there is a broken link, and the installation cannot proceed. So it's old Grub or nothing. Since my other distros already use Grub2, it has to be nothing. Pity.

This is being worked on - however if you exit the install at that point and boot into the new installation (either using one of your other systems' bootloaders or using a supergrub2 boot CD) you will then be able to install grub2 without problem from the running system - see my comments in the duplicate bug 9334.

Mageia2 installer never offered grub2 in either classic or LIVE. >... So it's old Grub or nothing. Since my other > distros already use Grub2, it has to be nothing. Pity. Why? There is no reason not to use grub legacy just because your other distros use grub2, although you would need to manually add your other distros to menu.lst if Mageia were used as the 'master' bootloader. Of course there is no reason why you cannot install with grub legacy and then switch to grub2 in the Mageia Control Center after installation - all this works fine.
Thanks - I appreciate all the advice, but was particularly pleased to learn that this is a recognised bug which is being worked upon.
