Description Thomas Spuhler 2013-04-22 18:32:54 CEST
Description of problem:
I hosed my system by upgrading this morning from the RC. It din't like my passwords anymore. I am not familiar how to boot failsafe using Grub2.
So I used the Install DVD and tried reinstalling bootloader. All I get was an error, just after hitting the "reinstall bootloader"

I am increasing "Severity" since, if this bug is valid (other people see it too) it must be resolved before the release.

Thomas - I would recommend that you make a supergrub2 boot CD to allow you to boot easily without a bootloader installed or working:

http://www.supergrubdisk.org/2012/07/04/super-grub2-disk-2-00-beta-1-released/

then run bootinfo script:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/bootinfoscript/files/latest

and attach the RESULTS.txt here - it's really useful for diagnosing boot problems.

That error is related to grub not grub2 - removing block on 416

Blocks: 416 => (none)
Summary: Rescue cannot reinstall grub2 bootloader => Rescue cannot reinstall grub bootloader

Comment 6 Thierry Vignaud 2013-05-03 17:02:47 CEST
It is.
Didn't you choose grub2 Thomas?
rescue hasn't been made aware of grub2

Comment 7 Thomas Spuhler 2013-05-03 17:24:35 CEST
I had Grub2
This now make sense: rescue hasn't been made aware of grub2
Could rescue install Grub in this case?
