It also offers to install grub to the USB stick it's installing from in the summary stage and asks if it is being used to boot from on the next screen.

Should be fixed since I fixed missing 'media_type' as part of bug #9674
Can you try latest boot.iso (post 2013/04/09)?

For completeness I tested with boot-nonfree.iso downloaded today and am installing from usb stick but also have a 2nd usb stick plugged in.

It now doesn't offer to install to the stick it is installing from but also doesn't offer to install to the 2nd stick either.

It also asks if it is the installation usb when asking which drive is used to boot from at grub installation.

Not present on live isos (22nd april). It's possible to install to a usb stick but the usb stick being used to install from is not offered.

Leaving open until final release tests to check classic isos

Just out of curiosity, what is the problem with installing to a stick that has a bootable image on it, provided there's room ? The bootable image just looks like an MBR with a single NTFS partition on it. If the bootloader grub logic doesn't screw up other existing bootable partitions on physical drives, why would it mess up a bootable image on a USB stick ?

Granted, it's not a usual thing to do, but I don't see why we should prevent it.

or anyone else:

Could you update this bug please with current installer in mind?

Pre-5 installers will not be fixed, so please change whiteboard to 5beta1 (or higher) and wipe 'NEEDINFO' if valid, else please close as old. Thanks!
