Description Roman Zakharenkov 2013-04-08 14:07:45 CEST
Description of problem: I want to install Mageia 3 beta 4. On start screen choose Russian language. When I got to the step "Add user", I can not choose default (English) layout, only Russian. But username must be in English. Right Control button do not work too. In this way I can not complete the installation. There are no "Back" button, only "Next".

Did you mean the live cd or the dvd installer?

As a workaround, can you:
- go to the second terminal (alt + ctrl + f2)
- then run the "setxkbmap us" command in order to switch to Qwerty keyboard layout (aka US)

Roman, 2 years ago Thierry asked a question to you, but you haven't answered. Does it mean we should close this bug report?

@Roman: how do you change layout on your desktop?
With a keyboard combination or with a graphical tool?

BTW the full work around is:
- go to to tty2 (alt+ctrl+F2)
- run "setxkbmap en"
- got to back to GUI (alt+ctrl+F5)
- type in in english
- go to to tty2 (alt+ctrl+F2)
- run "setxkbmap ru" for switching back to Russian mapping

@ Roman

If the problem still exists in Mageia 5, could you then please try Thierry's instructions?

That looks like a typo, for me th GUI is always on alt+ctrl+F7

an go back to the the GUI to finish install.

CC'ing AlexL, who might be able to reproduce the issue, or know how to toggle the keyboard layout in stage2

It was for mga3 and not always reproducible: some users confirmed, but another did not. This bug is not present in mga5. So this bug is old.
