Please also refer to bug 5120

facter reports lsbdistcodename as thornicroft but Mageia doesn't have code names for releases.
Comment 1 Nicolas Vigier 2013-01-03 14:50:39 CET
Mageia has a code name defined in /etc/lsb-release. So this is not a bug.

$ cat /etc/lsb-release
LSB_VERSION=
DISTRIB_ID="Mageia"
DISTRIB_RELEASE=2
DISTRIB_CODENAME=thornicroft
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Mageia 2"

I searched the codenames of the five versions of Mageia (with the command in a terminal: [user@localhost ~]$ cat /etc/lsb-release )

    Mageia 1 Alpha - codinome: Cantine
    Mageia 1 - codinome: valstar
    Mageia 2 - codinome: thornicroft
    Mageia 3 - codinome: thornicroft
    Mageia 4 - codinome: thornicroft
    Mageia 5 - codinome: thornicroft (still being discussed)

(see: "Re: Wallpapers of Mageia 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 - artwork memory" https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=9789#p56674 )

One suggestion is to relate the codename with some characteristic of the distro. One of the characteristics of a distro is the default wallpaper. So, my codename suggestion for the Mageia 5 is "Cosmos", as I commented in Mageia forum:

(see: Re: Wallpapers of Mageia 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 - artwork memory - https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=9789#p56619 ).

Comment 4 Morgan Leijström 2016-11-08 08:06:24 CET
Is codinome used for anything at all?
I have never heard of it, it is not in our wiki, in forum only refeenced when stumbled upon.
I think it only adds confusion.
If the variable need be defined for some reason i guess we can simply set it
 = DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION ?

Codenames are useless marketing gimmicks...

we should simply nuke the codename, or if lsb "demands" a codename stick mgaX in there ...

Reopening, as Mageia do not have codenames.
Possible solution see my and Thomas previous comment above.

Since I got no reply to the freese push, I forgot to check.
It was aprooved, and since it is now fixed in mga6 I'm closing this.
