Description Alex Loginov 2012-12-16 14:05:33 CET
tvtime is needed /dev/mixer, but snd_mixer_oss is in blacklist in sound-scripts.
tvtime can not find /dev/mixer without modprobe snd_mixer_oss.
Comment 1 Colin Guthrie 2013-05-14 10:26:13 CEST
Please install osspd package which provides /dev/mixer support under PulseAudio systems. If you wish to use snd_mixer_oss approach then you can switch the audio profile to alsa rather than pulseaudio and this module will be automatically loaded.

If so, then please add Requires: ossp for tvtime.

Comment 3 Colin Guthrie 2013-05-14 11:43:45 CEST
It's sadly not that simple. It depends on the sound profile really. If the user picks one sound profile, then they *might* want ossp IFF they run legacy apps that use OSS (of which there are very few). Otherwise the user will likely not want the overhead.

On the other hand if they chose another sound profile they will not need ossp.

In mga4 I will likely switch to ossp for both alsa and pulse sound output profiles, but this requires an updated ossp.

So we cannot really add a hard require here as it's not true (at present). In the future it might be.

We could in theory suggest it in some package (e.g. pulseaudio-client-config) but sadly I wasn't aware of this bug report until now and thus it's too late for Mageia 3.

Well, please return to this problem after Mageia 3 release in mga4.

Colin, is it time to return thinking about problem?
Do you have new ideas?
Comment 6 Alex Loginov 2014-03-30 21:27:22 CEST
Colin, hello
Will you add Suggests: osspd in pulseaudio-client-config?
It will be partial fix, but it's better, than nothing.

Is there some further configuration that is needed other than just installing osspd? The daemon doesn't start automatically, and when I ran osspd manually it would just silently exit. I ran osspd as the use who was logged in to KDE.

osspd is a a systemd daemon so it should not be run as your user.

But looking at the spec, you are correct that it doesn't properly activate itself on install.

To activate it manually, run the following as root:

systemctl enable osspd && systemctl start osspd

Or use the drakservices GUI to do it.

Sorry about that. I'll look into fixing up the spec.

I have no TV now.
Is bug still valid for tvtime-1.0.6?
Comment 10 Lewis Smith 2019-04-04 20:59:37 CEST
Is this very old bug still relevant? Or can it be closed?
