The command in /usr/sbin has a lowercase e on extension but the installation instructions specify an uppercase E.

Following the same <math> example as Claire, ends in the same results: Failed to parse (PNG conversion failed; check for correct installation of latex and dvipng (or dvips + gs + convert)): \operatorname{erfc}(x) = ... In the code, that error is printed because the png file is not found. There doesn't appear to be any other errors in the log. FYI: I stumbled into a new feature (as of 1.19) that is somewhat helpful here. Adding this line to LocalSettings.php: $wgDebugToolbar = true; Puts a bar across the bottom of the window with some useful information, including the debugging log.
