There's three ways of doing it:
- Install Firefox with LXDE
- Don't have that FF icon in the panel at all
- Live with having it there but not working, when FF is not installed.

Which way to go?

Is it possible do you think to have a generic browser icon which points to www-browser?
Comment 4 Oliver Burger 2012-09-07 11:47:38 CEST
Maybe...
Give me a generic icon like that and I can try.
But we will still have a broken icon pointing to that, if no browser is installed.

And to be honest, someone doing a minimal installation like that, should be able to either "repair the panel icons" or install firefox...

There is a generic web-browser.png icon in gnome-icon-theme. Otherwise it's possible to use the /usr/share/icons/web-browser-section.png from desktop-common-data.

Is there a generic desktop file somewhere?
If not, which package should create that desktop file?
We could then add that package as a dependancy to task-lxde and replace firefox by that generic browser in the panel.

Pro: we wouldn't have a broken ff icon in the panel, if ff is not installed
Contra: we would force users to install a browser

To be honest, I would just leave this alone. Repeating myself, people who do such minimal graphical installs, should be able to handle it, and the majority using lxde would have their "well known" firefox icon there.

Sorry, but this bug saw no action since over 2 yrs ago.
No cauldron package has stayed the same since then.

Closing as OLD

Please reopen if this report is still valid for _current_ cauldron and/or fully
updated Mageia 4
