Description Marcello Anni 2012-09-05 21:42:06 CEST
Description of problem:
hi,

i have an HP laserjet 1028 and Mageia 2 i586 with KDE. I'm forced to use foomatic drivers instead of proprietary ones because it's impossible to install the firmware for the printer. hp-setup downloads the firmware only in root mode, but when i enter as a normal user the firmware results uninstalled and a pop-up is prompted to install it for the user (and the download fails). Can you fix this bug? thanks

python-cups-1.9.61-2.mga2

How reproducible:
Install the printer; if you select proprietary drivers, it won't work. it works only with foomatic driver. download the firmware as user will fail, downloading it as root results useless.

Cheers,
Marcello

@ Marcello

Are you sure it didn't install at all as root, or did it install, but was it just unusable?

Is your issue the same as bug 5395?

no, i meant as root the firmware has been downloaded, but it's unusable. yes, it's a duplicate of that bug.
