Description Friedel Wolff 2012-08-23 15:45:25 CEST
Evolution fails to migrate data from old versions (2.26 in my case). The bug has been fixed upstream and released with version 3.4.4. As far as I know, this is the relevant commit:

http://git.gnome.org/browse/evolution/commit/?h=gnome-3-4&id=b5d60a4d5a5838f95f2bb71efc49e216c978cd60

(although I don't know if that is all that is required).

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Currently I have evolution 3.4.1 from core-release.

How reproducible:
Every time (problem in upstream release since something like version 3.2)

Step to Reproduce:
Attempt to restore a backup from a version of Evolution older than 2.32.

Hi Friedel, thank you for your report. Can you confirm that this problem also is present in version 3.4.3 in updates_testing? (I assume yes, but if you can test and confirm that'd be most helpful).

Additionally, do you have a datafile (if needed) we can use to reproduce this problem?

I just tested with 3.4.3 from updates-testing, and can confirm that it doesn't solve the problem. Here is the log for the 3.4 branch of evolution:

http://git.gnome.org/browse/evolution/log/?h=gnome-3-4

The fix was made just before releasing 3.4.4. The only datafile I have is my mail backup which contains lots of confidential stuff, so it won't be easy to share anything useful (it is also very big). I can try to test 3.4.4 from updates_testing as soon as it becomes available.

adding the three last commiters as there is no maintainer

Evolution 3.4.4 also fixes memory leaks and two crashing bugs as well:
http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/evolution/3.4/evolution-3.4.4.changes

Is it possible to package Evolution 3.4.4 as an update for Mageia 2?
Comment 5 Manuel Hiebel 2012-09-09 15:04:08 CEST
seems the 3.4.4 version is in the svn so add the depends for the gnome update

Manuel, I'm not sure I understand what you wrote. Is there something I can do to test an update?
Comment 7 Manuel Hiebel 2012-09-12 20:48:28 CEST
yes sorry, it seems that evolution 3.4.4 (as you see here: http://svnweb.mageia.org/packages?view=revision&revision=291142) will come with the gnome3 update, that's why I added the bug 7413 as a blocker of this one
Comment 8 Bruno Piguet 2012-12-17 18:00:46 CET
I support this request.

I've been bitten by this problem two days ago... and I'm currently working on transferring my evolution mail backup to thunderbird because I haven't found a way to have access to it form evo 3.4.1 and I really need this access.

Bruno.

Gnome's big update for Mageia 2 was canceled apparently. Manuel do you know why this update was waiting for the gnome update? Does version 3.4.4 depend on other gnome components that would need updating (thus making updating evolution difficult)?

This message is a reminder that Mageia 2 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately one month from now Mageia will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Mageia 2. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX (EOL) if it remains open with a Mageia 'version' of '2'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Mageia version prior to Mageia 2's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Mageia 2 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Mageia, you are encouraged to click on "Version" and change it against that version of Mageia.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Mageia release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.

Mageia 2 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on ''22 November''. Mageia 2 is no
longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or
bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Mageia
please feel free to click on "Version" change it against that version of Mageia
and reopen this bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
