Description of problem: 1) Install MuseScore from RPMDrake. (I don't recall if Timidity++ and its patches are normal dependencies, since I already had them installed.) 2) Run MuseScore. 3) Attempt to get MuseScore to play back notes (midi music). 4) The play button is "grayed-out" and unresponsive; no midi playback when clicking on notes. 5) In the settings section, under "I/O", the portaudio selection is also "grayed-out," and none of the other options work. Jack can be made to work, but it breaks other things in the process (and isn't worth the effort and complexity, IMHO). Note: Having no midi playback is a major problem for composing (at least how some people/I do it), so I'm calling this a "Normal" bug, even though it doesn't affect all Mageia users. Those who are affected will be pulling their hair out, though (as I was). Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Several versions, including .9, 1.0, 1.2--including "build-from-source" versions that I compiled myself. (I'm currently using the latest, 1.2, which I compiled, myself.) How reproducible: As above. Steps to Reproduce: 1. As above. Solution: Install portaudio (lib64portaudio0 and/or lib64portaudio2; including -devel version for building from source; otherwise just the binary). I just did an "in-line" upgrade to Mageia 2 Release Candidate, so I don't know if using the above steps in the new Mageia version will produce the same result; but unless MS now has portaudio as a dependency, the problem will persist. Therefore, this bug can be corrected by adding portaudio as a dependency. It would be "icing on the cake" to get the latest version of MS in the repository, but having midi playback at all is much more important. I'd package/submit a new/corrected version, myself, but I don't know how (and would probably do it very badly). Thanks for your work, devs!

This message is a reminder that Mageia 1 is nearing its end of life. In approximately 25 days from now, Mageia will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Mageia 1. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX (EOL) if it remains open with a Mageia 'version' of '1'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Mageia version prior to Mageia 1's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Mageia 1 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Mageia, you are encouraged to click on "Version" and change it against that version of Mageia. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Mageia release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. -- Mageia Bugsquad
