This looks like a corrupted initrd and/or a lilo problem. Would you be able to get the contents from the /root folder from that install? Namely the drakx folder. Just tar+compress it up and attach it here.

You should also be aware that while mageia1 may have supported this kind of setup I would still strongly recommend against it. The mechanisms lilo uses are broken by design and I'd very much vote to remove this in the future. I'll be adding a warning to release notes to suggest people do not rely on this and plan instead for the future.

Comment 5 mnaud mnaud 2012-05-07 20:44:15 CEST
you can find in attachment drakx directory as tar.gz

am surprising about your remark, in my guess both lilo or grub support's this kind of installation (mean /boot under raid1).
Comment 6 Colin Guthrie 2012-05-07 20:48:49 CEST
If grub supports it then fine, but lilo's encoding of the root= argument for / or raid is outdated (it relies on node minor numbers being limited to 256 which they are not and have not for years) If grub can do it then fine, it'll likely do it in a vaguely sensible way.

Anyway, I can't see any obvious errors here, but I'd suggest it's a lilo problem. The initrd looked to be created fine, but the kernel just doens't understand the initrd passed to it.

So unless the bootsplash stuff somehow currupted the initrd itself then eveyrhitng shuould be OK. Can you mount /boot in a rescue and copy off the initrd? Then we can see if the image itself is corrupt. After copying it off to a safe location try re-runnign lilo to see if it works then.
Comment 7 mnaud mnaud 2012-05-13 11:16:37 CEST
if this kind of installation is not officially supported by mageia team can you provide an example of the official configuration to obtain a redundancy system.

Suppose you have a PC with 2 HDD with no raid controller and you want to install your system as secure as possible and the system must boot after lost 1 HDD ? ..
What is the "official way" ?
Comment 8 Thierry Vignaud 2012-05-13 12:05:49 CEST
You use either several soft RAID or one soft RAID with only one big "/" fs.
Unless you can explain to me how to set up lvm on top of raid with drakx...

am not sure about you question but you can find in attachment 3 [details] screenshot's take during installation of mageia 2RC and you can see LVM over RAID1 in the installer mean drakx ?

you just have to activate expert mode, create 2 partition's on sda typed "linux raid", then do the same on sdb.
then select sda1 -> add to raid -> md0
select sdb1 -> add to raid -> md0

then select sda5 -> add to raid -> new -> md1
select sdb5 -> add to raid -> md1

then in raid tab select md0 -> type -> ext4 -> /boot
then select md1 -> type LVM -> add to lvm -> vg0

then in vg0 tab you can add your lv's .

the problem appear only when your installation is finished and you reboot your system ...
you will have an error message complaining about initrd file.

Hi,

This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment.

Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2.

Thanks :)

Cheers,
marja

Are these screenshots after a fresh install? If so does trying the workaround mentioned in bug #6692 (comment 11) help?
Comment 18 Luděk Janča 2012-08-08 08:29:24 CEST
Yes, its from fresh install. But only in network installation. With DVD is everything OK on PC but still not work on RX100 S6.

@joelp@email.cz:

Please advise current status and relevance for current installer (M5), because it is unchanged for 2 1/4 years ? Lots of info was given, not enough?

If not relevant anymore, please close the report?

Thanks.
