Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install with LXDE as only desktop During install it asks (IIRC) if i want to install gdm. Buttons available are back and continue. I chosed continue. 2. Reboot, login, and you get a dialog saying it failed initialising gnome (or something similar), and you get back to login screen. In the login dialog user can change to LXDE using button lower left, and it works. It would be more beautiful if it could default intelligently.
It is worse: it need manually be corrected to LXDE *every* login. After every boot, and even after just logging out of LXDE.
Even better is probably to make it default to use the LXDE login manager. It seem it was installed anyway, i noticed when manually changing to it. So besides gdm not remembering that i want LXDE, it probably shold not have been installed at all? (wrong dependency?)
your bug is strange, please add the file /root/drakx/report.bug

Same install as in reporting bug 5708, so same attachement: attachment 2155 [details] The install is in virtualbox but i do not think it matters.
I can't reproduce your bug, can you add more detail for a test case ?
Absolutely. I have now in VirtualBox installed two different systems to play with, called CASE 1 and CASE 2 below, and with this instruction i believe you can replicate. __The first part of installation is identical for both cases: Installing in VirtualBox, using mga2 32 bit boot.iso fetched today. Using HTTP, urpmi_proxy. Default mode graphic installer, Swedish Partitioning: small /boot, and a LVM with / /home swap. At what to install: only 3 boxes checked: Console_tools, Configuration, LXDE -installing packages- Set pwd for root, and defined one user Then it asks (translated) "Package gdm need to be installed. Do you want to install it?" Buttons available are [Back] and [Next] * The bug here is that gdm and many other gnome packages are not needed * __From this point, call it CASE 1: Clicking [Back] make it immediately proceed installing! (Another BUG?) Flatscreen 1200x1600, all else default, DONE, eject noot.iso, reboot And it comes up perfectly with LXDE login manager. gdm not installed. __If i instead clicked [Next] (CASE 2) it installs 38 packages (scrolled real fast but i spotted gnome power manager and another gnome) Then 6 more packages After boot is it as described in first bug entry," comment 0 " Looking at installed packages i have in CASE 1 23 packages with *gnome* in it but about twice as many in CASE 2; example: gnome-desktop3, gnome-icon-theme, gnome-session...
Summary: When only LXDE is installed, login defaults to gnome, fail. => Too many gnome packages are suggested when LXDE as only DE is selected for install & gdm misconfigured
The "Package nn need to be installed" dialog: -> Bug 5766
ok with the online repo, seems the autologin bug is back :( http://svnweb.mageia.org/soft/drakx/trunk/perl-install/any.pm?r1=2590&r2=3415 was maybe not enough ? * set_autologin LXDE * do_pkgs_during_install::install * selecting packages gdm >Clicking [Back] make it immediately proceed installing! (Another BUG?) yep https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4809 BUT: for what install is your report.bug file ? it's normal that in case 2 you have a lot gnome pkg, for the case 1 that is not, indeed.

That report.bug was from a "CASE 2" type i did on another machine. To be very clear i will now attach report.bug from both the new test systems (they are under VirtualBox in a faster machine just for purpose of this bug)
Created attachment 2201 [details] New CASE 2 /root/drakx/report.bug.gz
Created attachment 2202 [details] Case 1 /root/drakx/report.bug.gz
Will try to debug in a chroot for the case 1 since the requires/suggests messages are missing in your file :/
Thanks I have no idea of how to generate such, even less during install. But i know urpmi is handy for chrooted environment.
it seems that task-lxde suggest draktools witch suggest system-config-printer, that's why you have all these dependencies With urpmi you can use urpmi --no-suggest and with the installer I don't know https://gist.github.com/2715265 (not from a minimal install) but this is not so many

Draktools is nice to have... -but why any of that requires *gdm*, i think is a bug.
Hi, This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment. Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2. Thanks :) Cheers, marja

Sorry, but this bug saw no action since over 2 yrs ago - no cauldron package has stayed the same - and is still assigned to Bug Squad. Closing as OLD Please reopen if this report is still valid for _current_ cauldron and/or fully updated Mageia 4
