Description Keith Refson 2012-04-28 10:41:44 CEST
I'm starting a new bug as there appear to be plenty of wireless issues in Mga2 beta but I can't tell if this is really a duplicate.

Problem: After upgrade from mga1 wireless refuses to associate or complete connection. The interface is configured using draknetcenter, and the "interface controlled by network manager" tick box is unchecked. The "iwlwifi" kernel module is installed and the interface sees the correct network in response to "iwlist wlan0 scanning". (So this appears NOT to be a driver issue).

One observation which may or may not be relevant is that the draknet tools appear no misremember the type of wireless encryption. Though I set this to "wpa2/preshared key" on a restart of draknetcenter it reverts to the incorrect value of "restricted WEP".

Workaround: Put interface under control of networkmanager and install network manager plasma applet to control. Then networks associate correctly (after much faff with the brokenness of kdewallet)

Machine: Samsung X360 notebook.

# lspcidrake -v | grep wifi
iwlwifi : Intel Corporation|Ultimate N WiFi Link 5300 [NETWORK_OTHER] (vendor:8086 device:4235 subv:8086 subd:1001)
# lsmod | grep wifi
iwlwifi 309216 0
mac80211 440190 1 iwlwifi
cfg80211 199805 2 mac80211,iwlwifi
# uname -a

Running draknetcenter gives a log of failed connect attempts (to the desired ORAC). The attachment is the relevant extract from /var/log/messages

Hi,

This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment.

Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2.

Thanks :)

Cheers,
marja

It turns out that this was a duplicate of bug 3344. The problems were the result
of two competing wpa_supplicant processes running at the same time.

I do not know if this still applies to MGA2, as I uninstalled all of the networkmanager packages. The drakxnet control works well under Mga2 now.
