Description Andrew 2012-04-24 10:27:18 CEST
Description of problem:

Issue 1.) When using wireless, if both drakx-net and network manager are running and Network Manager is controlling the device, connection performance suffers. Known work-around is to let drakx-net fully manage any wireless network cards (setting Network Manager to unmanaged).

Issue 2.) When installing a wireless card via insmod or modprobe, both drakx-net and network manager attempt to control the device simultaneously, rendering the card unusable until reboot and then disabling drakx-net or network manager.

Issue 3.) From drakx-net (Mageia Network Center) when enabling (or disabling) "Allow interface to be controlled by Network Manager" and applying changes to network, connection becomes unusable by either until reboot.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

kernel-desktop 3.3.3-1.mga2
drakx-net 1.7-1.mga2
networkmanager 0.9.4.0-3.mga2
networkmanager-applet 0.9.4.1-1.mga2

How reproducible:

Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install wireless interface in Gnome

OR

1. Log into Gnome
2. Open Mageia Network Center
3. Select the wireless network you are currently using and connected to
4. Select Configure
5. Enable / disable "Allow interface to be controlled by Network Manager"
6. Apply changes

Actual Result(s):
Wi-Fi connection becomes unstable until either Network Manager or Drakx-Net is disabled (Issues #1 & 2) or becomes unusable until reboot (Issue #3)

Expected Result(s):
Drakx-net and NetworkManager should be able to intelligently reconfigure each other when conflicting changes are applied.

Hi,

This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment.

Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2.

Thanks :)

Cheers,
marja

@ Andrew

I know your bug is older, but everyone knows bug 6675 which our drakx-net maintainer opened about the same issue.

I'll close this one as a duplicate of 6675
