Description Jehan Hysseo 2012-04-19 15:17:52 CEST
Hi,

I just downloaded Mageia 2 beta 3 KDE 64 bit liveCD (Europe 1).
I checked the checksums, download was perfect.
I made a bootable usb (as explained here: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Installation_Media#Dump_Mageia_ISOs_on_an_USB_stick.3F) and plugged it on a usb3.

Grub booted fine. Then whether I choose "Boot Mageia 2 (Cauldron)" or "Install Mageia 2 (Cauldron)", I get the same result:
- First I get a splashscreen (I tried to "esc" it to see if I could have interesting load information about the crash, but it just stayed black).
- Then I get a console telling me:
«
dracut Warning: unable to process initqueue
dracut Warning: "/dev/disk/by-label/Mageia-2-KDE4-LiveCD" does not exist
dracut Warning: "/live/union" does not exist

Dropping to debug shell.

sh: 0: can't access tty; job control turned off
dracut:/#
»

When plugging the usb to another USB (which is v2), installation or boot works. So I could install this way.
I have now a fully working Mageia 2. So ask me any kind of information on my machine if it helps to understand and fix the bug.

Thomas, I wonder if the USB3 driver modules need to be included in the initrd for it to show up?

I have no USB3 h/w to test on so I'm not really sure about this one.

draklive should include all modules from bus/usb

Summary: "dracut Warning: unable to process initqueue" on install startup when booting from usb 3 => "dracut Warning: unable to process initqueue" on install startup when booting from USB3

Note that I have highlighted the fact that the failing usb plug is usb3 (otherwise working fine right now under an installed Mageia 2 to read the exact same usb key) while the working one is usb2. There may be another reason which is not about the usb version.

Just tell me what to test/try and I will do it, as long as it is not bad for my new laptop or my data. :-)

I just experienced sth. similar *after* installing from dual arch w/ USB2, i586. Is it okay to link to the forum?

I have burned Mageia 2 Beta 3 x86_64 dvd iso into a USB, it boot USB, i select "Install Mageia" and starts detecting step but then doesnt continue and asks me to select a drive list, the USB isnt detected anymore.

I have runned in USB 3 and USB 2 and it happens exactly the same.

To note that I did burned Beta 2 and all went fine, so is a problem with usb drivers in Beta 3.

@Joe Please open a new bug for your issue. It's a little different (although it does look similar)

@Simple do you get the same output as reported in this bug regarding the dracut initqueue and /dev/disk/by-label/... ?

Done.

The issue might be that draklive is run on mga1 where drakxtools' list_modules.pm doesn't know about usb3?

There's an option to use one from chroot.

Maybe we lack the following in images-config/draklive:
modules => 'bus/usb'

After trying again, and now with a more carefull reading i see that the install doesnt go because it wants to access the DVD, and if i choose "No" it shows a list of drivers to choose.

So this problem seams to be a litle different from the one initially described, also if i use ALT+F4 i see some like:
ISOFS: cant access the cd media

I dont get why the install that starts with a USB then passes to a DVD...

I hit «
dracut Warning: unable to process initqueue
dracut Warning: "/dev/disk/by-label/Mageia-2-KDE4-LiveCD" does not exist
dracut Warning: "/live/union" does not exist

Dropping to debug shell.

sh: 0: can't access tty; job control turned off
dracut:/#
»
from a Beta3 Kde Asia Live CD (from the CD, not dumped on USB). Only thing unusual I did, is to add xdriver=nouveau in command line (but it's not related).

@Simple: you should open a separate bug report.

Hi,

This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment.

Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2.

Thanks :)

Cheers,
marja

Hey all. Not reopening, but just to say that I finally reinstalled a Mageia 2 (finale version) and used the usb3 port again for the test. I had no problem!

I changed the RESOLVED OLD into a RESOLVED FIXED, as it is more appropriate. I hope that's ok! :-)
Thanks.
