Description of problem: the picture shows it all i have a 23 inch 16/9full hd display, and maybe that's the problem How reproducible: allways Reproducible: Steps to Reproduce:

Did you switch to any virtual terminal (i.e. by pressing Alt+Ctrl+F1) then back to Alt+Ctrl+F7?

Also possible that the monitor prefers a resolution not yet uploaded to the database, i.e. missing in xorg.conf.

The installer only uses 800x600 and 1024x768 resolutions. The monitor _must_ support those. Yours somewhat support them

I think this is the gtk-widget-blanks bug (i.e. I sometimes see something similar with MageiaUpdate and rpmdrake while the download progress dialogue is displayed... however even the dialogue itself blanks out).
I don't think so. The screenshot explicitely points the unused space at left & right
(In reply to comment #2) i did not switch (In reply to comment #3) i think it prefers 1920x1080 (In reply to comment #4) mandriva also only uses those resolutions and the problem doesn't exist with mdv
Dan you wrote "i think it prefers...". Please run (as root): # monitor-edit --MonitorsDB and the result should tell you for sure. If not, it is a model missing in de db and needs addition, but I don't guess that that is so by the looks of your attachment ;) The same values ought to be (I believe) shown in /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Please check that the values are the same (or not).
[root@localhost dan]# monitor-edit --MonitorsDB bash: monitor-edit: command not found

oops, stupid typo: ...edid..., not ...edit...
When you get a chance, please change the attachment type to 'plain text'. Thanks!

Thanks. So during install monitor-edid worked properly, as per preferred modeline in xorg.conf.

Which is irrelevant since the installer will never try to use the preferred resolution but just 800x600 or 1024x768
(In reply to comment #15) > Which is irrelevant since the installer will never try to use the preferred > resolution but just 800x600 or 1024x768 @ Thierry You mean this can't be solved? In that case, this bug can be closed.

This only means that preferred resolution won't help the installer.
Summary: bad looks during instalation => bad looks during installation: small black stripes on sides
