Description Lucien XU 2011-03-13 20:26:46 CET
Description of problem:
On a laptop, when I unplug the alimentation source, my USB mouse is not power powered anymore and cannot be used, but my USB key (USB disk) is still powered.

It seems to be related to laptop mode and not KDE power devil configuration because when I go on "powersave" mode, with the alimentation source plugged, the mouse is still usable.

When the power supply is plugged, the mouse is then powered and can be used.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
KDE 4.6.1 laptop-mode-tools 1.57

How reproducible:
Every time

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Plug an USB mouse (it should be usable)
2. Unplug the power supply (KDE should notify that)
3. Try to use the mouse : it is not working
4. Plug the power source
5. The mouse works again !

Reproducible:

Steps to Reproduce:

Sorry, but I still experience this bug (with latest kernel and updates)
It can be very annoying in final, so I increase the severity to critical.

Severity: major => critical

I have edited /etc/laptop-mode/conf.d/usb-autosuspend.conf
With CONTROL_USB_AUTOSUSPEND=0 in order to let my USB device work without power.

It was set to "auto" before.
I don't know if it is a bug of a feature, but my bug is now resolved.

When the mouse no longer work, does clicking help (in case you only tried moving it)?

I found http://code.google.com/p/chromium-os/issues/detail?id=4534 where they decided to not autosuspend input devices as too many behave badly
Comment 6 Lucien XU 2011-04-23 11:25:35 CEST
I set the "default" parameter again and when clicking on the mouse it works again.
Since it is an optical mouse, moving it when unpowered might does not have any effect ...

I don't know if it is wise to keep this "click-to-wake-up" behaviour : it can make some troubles.

Maybe; but it indeed saves some power, right?
Comment 8 Lucien XU 2011-04-23 21:35:37 CEST
Ok, bad news from laptop-mode front :
When I click to power the mouse, the red LED starts glowing but it is not functionnal. So my mouse is unusable ...
Comment 9 Pascal Terjan 2011-04-30 16:03:31 CEST
I added a patch to disable autosuspend for input devices
