Description pat dealt 2024-11-06 17:15:31 CET
Description of problem:

After kernel update version 6.6.58-2, it is impossible to boot.
The last message displayed during boot is :

"i915 0000:00:02.0: [drm] VT-d active for gfx access"

Then screen is frozen and only a HW poweroff is able to restart the computer.
This issue occurs even with failsafe option or any other kernel option.

How reproducible:

This issue occurs ONLY with intel module i915 and Alder Lake-P Integrated Graphics Controller
This issue doesn't occur with intel module i915 and Tiger Lake-LP GT2 [UHD Graphics G4].
BTW "gfx access" is not use with Tiger Lake.

Last it didn't occur with previous kernel versions (6.6.52, 6.6.50 ...)
and the same HW (Alder Lake).

Steps to Reproduce:

Just try to boot with kernel-6.6.58-2 + intel video module i915 and Alder Lake-P.

Thank you for the report.
To continue working, you can choose the previous kernel at boot time.

Assgning to kernel.

You still have this issue with kernel 6.6.61 in bug#33775 ?
Comment 4 pat dealt 2024-11-21 11:04:08 CET
Yes I have exactly the same stop point with the same last message.

As I said previously currently I still boot without any problem with
kernel 6.6.52 but I tried to boot also with 6.6.50 that worked in the past
and now it doesn't boot anymore with the same issue.
May be it's due to a dependance updated recently?
Comment 5 Giuseppe Ghibò 2024-11-21 14:19:58 CET
Try booting with i915.enable_dc=0
Comment 6 Giuseppe Ghibò 2024-11-21 14:23:54 CET
Also what is output of: 'lspcidrake -v | grep -i display' ?
Comment 7 pat dealt 2024-11-21 16:14:26 CET
I tried adding option i915.enable_dc=0 to kernel without any success.
To summarize :
Doesn't work with 6.6.58 and 6.6.61.
Doesn't work with 6.6.50 but worked in the past.
The only current kernel working is 6.6.52 on which

'lspcidrake -v | grep -i display' returns :

Card:Intel Kernel Mode setting (Xorg modesetting): Intel Corporation|Alder Lake-P Integrated Graphics Controller [DISPLAY_VGA] (vendor:8086 device:46a6 subv:8086 subd:3024) (rev: 0c)

This Bug is linked to 33770.
Resolved after microcode-0.20241112-1.mga9.nonfree.noarch.rpm release.
Now kernel 58 and 61 are working.
