while net_applet works fine with ethernet, and multiple ethernet, it's a bit of challenging now (at least in 2024) to get it working with wifi and modern authentication (unless you use some ancient hotspot), even for the first connection, and subsequent re-connection (not even after suspending), while instead networkmanager works like a breeze and you get all the hotspot listed quickly and fast connection (and you can easily setup an hotspot yourself too).

It's considerably easier to set up a VPN with Network Manager and openvpn, as well.

I do hope Network Manager is the default in mga 10?
Comment 15 Giuseppe Ghibò 2024-10-26 16:16:06 CEST
There is out 6.6.58-2.mga9 which included the fixes for the iptables problems. We need to update the files list. That was the only fixes included. Same fixes will be included upstream in next 6.6.59, but for now I think it's enough with 6.6.58-2.mga9.

howewer the handling of /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-* works fine and it's pretty easy to handle, rather than manual handling of NM scripts, e.g. you already have the prior knowledge learnt in the past, especially for simple cases like 1-2 ethernet interfaces at maximum with plain IPs WAN/LAN. E.g. for a server like the class of servers running this software (bugzilla, etc.).

> I do hope Network Manager is the default in mga 10?

Live CD is already using NM.

IMHO every attempt to do that automatically would produce side effects, especially on upgrades. But maybe there could be a single point configuration requester in drakconnect startup, like "Choose NetworkManager: [*] YES [ ] NO". But this might require a new and its own inquire.

Looks like your tool failed to update the names for the virtualbox and xtables kmods correctly. Qarepo couldn't find them as written. Using the wildcard feature, qarepo found these, which I believe are correct:

virtualbox-kernel-6.6.58-desktop-2.mga9-7.0.20-57.mga9.x86_64.rpm
virtualbox-kernel-6.6.58-server-2.mga9-7.0.20-57.mga9.x86_64.rpm
virtualbox-kernel-desktop-latest-7.0.20-57.mga9.x86_64.rpm
virtualbox-kernel-server-latest-7.0.20-57.mga9.x86_64.rpm
xtables-addons-kernel-6.6.58-desktop-2.mga9-3.24-65.mga9.x86_64.rpm
xtables-addons-kernel-6.6.58-server-2.mga9-3.24-65.mga9.x86_64.rpm
xtables-addons-kernel-desktop-latest-3.24-65.mga9.x86_64.rpm
xtables-addons-kernel-server-latest-3.24-65.mga9.x86_64.rpm

By the way, qarepo's wild card feature also revealed several old, probably rejected, kmods from old kernels still in testing. They really should be removed.

I'll reproduce today what I comment in bug#33667 comment#21

After boot desktop flavor, the reboot option in sddm produces grub menu is skipped
Don't know how to debug, but I not think is motive to block the update but a to remember for possible reports/forum's post

mga9-64 OK on my workstation svarten.

Tested *all three* 6.6.58-2 kernel variants:
linus and -server kernels with VirtualBox locally built kmod,
desktop kernel with virtualbox-kernel-6.6.58-desktop-2.

__Filesystems
boot: ext4
in LVM on a LUKS encrypted partition: / ext4, /home ext4, swap, swap2
big rust drive: plain ext4

__Clean update
using drakrpm, filtered on updates, testing repo enabled as updates

vt switching: OK
suspend-resume: OK
hibernate-resume: OK

Running Plasma, various desktop apps, flatpak, syncthing, nextcloud client, dropbox.

VirtualBox 7.0.20 host with Guest Windows 7
Tested dynamic window resizing, USB 2 flash disk, host folder sharing write protected and not, bidirectional clipboard, drag file from Dolphin to Explorer, Internet video in Firefox.
First session Windows update found security update, I let it update, and rebooted.

Since the last test I switch to this version as main kernel and even remove previous version, looks good enough
