Issues

A fresh clean installation of Mageia 1 i586 Live (http://www.mageia.org/en/downloads/dl.php?product=mageia-1-live-gnome-europe1-cd-i586) goes through flawlessly. Once rebooting into Mageia, DVD drive shows up as 'Unnamed Drive (/dev/hda/).

Inserting a DVD disc does not display in 'Computer'. Disc is not accessible and Brasero Disc Burner does not see Optiarc DVD RW AD-7530B.

What can I do to troubleshoot this?

Can you provide the output of:

lspcidrake -v | grep STORAGE_IDE

CC: (none) => tmb

Bug Number 1525 looks to be the same problem... I'm not 100% sure.. but this is the first time for me submitting bugs..

As per https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1525#c96
try editing /etc/modprobe.conf replacing amd74xx with pata_amd
and reboot.

If that fixes the problem, this bug can be closed as a duplicate
of bug 1525.

No.. this has not fixed the issue. I just attempted that and I still have the same situation. :(

You also need to recreate the initrd to pick up the change.

mkinitrd -f -v /boot/initrd-2.6.38.8-desktop-6.mga.img 2.6.38.8-desktop-6.mga

and then you can check that it got picked up by doing:

lsinitrd /boot/initrd-2.6.38.8-desktop-6.mga.img |grep pata_amd

I installed 2.6.38.8-desktop-6.1.mga kernel, and didn't do the initrd or mkinird -f ...... at all. Rebooted and the CD/DVD drive is working perfectly now!! Excellent!! Thank you very much!

I changed the /etc/modprobe.conf and replaced amd74xx to pata_amd, then installed the 2.6.38.8-desktop-6.1.mga kernel and everything is working so far.
