Description Michael Slíva 2022-05-19 15:48:50 CEST
After opening gtk-gnutella, the program keeps opening a pop-up window every few minutes, reporting that the currently running version (1.2.0) is "ancient". On the 25th of February 2022 version 1.2.2 was released.

Thank you for the report. Certainly "the program keeps opening a pop-up window every few minutes" is excessive, and annoying.

This package is nominally done by joequant, but daviddavid has done all more recent updates. Assigning this globally, CC'ing DavidG.

MGA8-64 MATE on Acer Aspire 5253
No installation issues.
No wiki, no previous updates, so trying to find my way around. Found http://www.geocities.ws/prae2rian/tutorial/gnut/gnu_tutor.htm
but that is largely over my head.
Lauched gtk-gnutella and got a screenfull of some actual connections and a load of "Connecting". The latter dispappeared after a while. The ones with a valid connection I could disconnect or apply a reverse DNS lookup. That one replaced the IP-address with a FQDN.
As far as I understand this, it seems to work, so I give the OK. But someone with more knowledge on the subject may jump in, welcome....

Since you didn't mention it, the popup described in comment 0 must be gone. So there's that.

With no one having anything to add, I'm going to validate.
