Created attachment 12435 [details] orphaned packages after 7 to 8 migration Upgrading a Mageia 7 Plasma to Mageia 8 leads to a long list of "orphaned" packages. Although many are .mga7, some are .mga8 and we should take a look. I attached that list. Added blank lines between .mga7 and .mga8 ones. Some of them are important: Gconf2 and dconf ? for GTK apps? java 8? lib64kf5jsembed5-5.76.0-1.mga8.x86_64 lib64kf5webkit5-5.76.0-1.mga8.x86_64 Don't they?
For the detail: was the mga7 a default Plasma install only, or more packages added?

A Plasma-only installation
java 8 should be orphaned as java 11 is the default now. Gconf2 can be as well, depending on what you have installed, and the libraries are legit orphans if nothing requires them.
Thanks for those comforting words, David. > the libraries are legit orphans if nothing requires them I am tempted to add that unless the orphan list includes something major (like the bug about it taking out all of Xfce), why not just believe it & do it?

Also, were orphans (if any) removed prior to the upgrade?

I would agree in facts. This was a M7 Plasma installed in a VM with only packages selected from "Plasma" preset from Classic Installer. No other packages installed. If there were only .mga7 packages, I would urpme all of them. That's only the .mga8 which I wonder why installer did upgrade them from .mga8 to later says they are orphaned... So this is not a real

Oups. This is not a real issue. Thanks all for your wisdom. Closing this. The next time, this should rather go to a qa-discuss subject.
