Description of problem:

Plasma desktop doesn't start from the Live USB (Mageia-8-beta2-Live-Plasma-x86_64.iso) on the hardware:
- chipset AMD690G (Radeon x1250 onboard graphics);
- CPU AMD Sempron LE-1300 (single core x64);
- RAM 2048 Mb DDR2.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

Mageia-8-beta2-Live-Plasma-x86_64.iso

How reproducible:

Every time I try to boot up the PC.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create bootable USB pen using Mageia-8-beta2-Live-Plasma-x86_64.iso image.
2. Boot the specified PC from the USB media.
3. Main console displays an arrow (graphical cursor). Secondary console allow a terminal. /var/log/Xorg.0.log contains no errors while dmesg output contain messages:

Have you been able to install Mageia previously on this machine?
Are you able to try instead the Xfce 64-bit Live ISO, to see whether the same problem happens with that?
Alternatively, it could be worth trying, if you can, our Classic 64-bit ISO. You can ask for just Plasma during installation. That is *not* Live, so no chance to try before you install. It is a big download, and needs a bigger (8Gb) USB key.

Oops. Ignore comment 2 please. Just read what I posted. Tagging it as obsolete.
Time for a break. :-)

Hi, sorry again for troubles.

At least, could you later if possible add a really dmesg log file from this system, and not a selected/truncated one?

Best things to do:
Use a USB key and please add persistance partition.
At least if Live Plasma can't boot right to Plasmashell on one attempt,
Please edit (by pressing "e" key on keyboard) the kernel command line in Grub2, remove "quiet", "splash" and add "rd.systemd.unit=multi-user.target" at the end of the line. Press F10 to boot.

If system hangs, please attach here a photography of the message on screen.

If a Mageia 7 is installed, please install "inxi" package and attach here output of following command: "inxi -FAG".

Thank you for the work and for the attention to users requests. I understand that this hardware is obsolete.

This PC is running Mageia 7 i586 Xfce operating system updated to the actual state now and it works perfect. I have no idea how to try to install "Mageia 8 beta 2 Plasma" in short time. Therefore some common reports.

1) Mageia-7.1-Live-Plasma-x86_64.iso - boots up and works, not very fast and not very stable (maybe because in Live USB mode without updates). But Firefox and OpenOffice both were launched successfully. No errors in dmesg output.

2) Mageia-8-beta2-Live-Xfce-x86_64.iso - boots up and works correct, but the dmesg output contains some errors:

Thank you Ihar for all informations!

Lets see if kernel and driver maintainers may have a clue.

Culprit is here.
It's duplicate of Bug 28154.
I know your BR is early than this one.
But, some AMD graphic devices have difficulties with recent combination of Drivers and newer Kernel.

Still investigated here.
Best you can do: do a lspcidrake -v and report here the output about your graphic card.

We also want that you do the same with a Mageia 7 installation to know which kernel module is used by this installation and that is running fine.

Best regards,

Comment 8 Giuseppe Ghibò 2021-01-26 11:28:16 CET
Actually I got the plasma live ISO 8-rc not starting in graphics mode also on Intel chipsets (not only AMD) with no discrete cards. Bug 28154 AFAIK it's for AMD only. Other live on the same hardware (XFCE for instance, don't tried gnome) starts.

Maybe we could internally reseed/resync/refresh the 8-RC live isos to the latest kernel 5.10.10, since ISO have 5.10.7, and we fixed stuff, might be nonsense to continue to retest with the older one.
