Details

Description Antonin Roussel 2019-11-17 03:32:57 CET
Description of problem:
changing screen orientation (90° counter clockwise) with system settings makes screen display freezing.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
kscreen-5.15.4-1.mga7

How reproducible:
every time (guess - freezed too in another user session)

Steps to Reproduce:
1. system settings > Display
2. change screen orientation (90° counter clockwise)
3. Apply
4. see (rotated display moves a bit like an opening session, and freezes)

Workaround : After freeze, kill session, edit .local/share/kscreen/30177a7ea70499dc2f3b80c7f48491e4 and set rotation value back to 1
NB : there was no problem with mga6

systemsettings - display rotate bug log

$ systemsettings5 2>&1 > ~/systemsettings5_20191117_1917.log
done

Run systemsettings until it freezes whole session display

Mouse was still moving on rotated display, cursor was changing according to invisible windows. Repeated Alt+F4 shortcut, make sound happen, probably an alert from a closing window.

A parallel graphic session on the same station was fine.

They probably won't fix it. So I'm asked to test with Plasma 5.17, then I'm wondering :

1 - Is it possible still using "home system" mageia7?
2 - Can I run a virtual box with Cauldron for that? (not sure... because box screen seems so virtual)
3 - I can try to install Cauldron on a spare partition (Need to parse https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Grub2-efi_and_Mageia for a net-install)

third choice looks the best, ^~^'

3 - Mageia Cauldron 8 is not completely booting
    - (5 bubbles and then black screen with a very slowly blinking dash)
    - (Even got a more verbose one with many green OKs and ending with "Hold until boot process finishes up...") waited several minutes without any change.

4 - Got an hold MageiaCauldron7
    $ plasmashell --version
    plasmashell 5.12.1

    Rotating screen is ok with it.

5 - On Mageia7, this is
    $ plasmashell --version
    plasmashell 5.15.4

    Rotating screen is broken

My tests are over with no success.
