Description Levchenko Roman 2019-11-08 22:05:15 CET
Description of problem:
Video file created by X11Grab with ffmpeg (screencasting), has freezed video. The sound records - ok.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
ffmpeg 4.1.4-1.mga7.tainted
x11-server-xorg 1.20.5-1.mga7

How reproducible:
Always. when you try do screencast.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Take computer with Intel graphics
2.Install Mageia7 just "from box", with last updates, no special programs, all components by default for Plasma desktop.
3. Try to do screencast: open Koncole, and use, for example, this "ffmpeg -f alsa -i pulse -f x11grab -show_region 1 -r 20 -s 1132x462 -threads 0 -i :0.0+120,149 -vsync 1 -vcodec mpeg2video -q:v 0 -af aresample=async=1000 -acodec libmp3lame -ab 160k -ac 2 /home/_user_/proba`date +%F\_%H.%M`.mkv", or any code to screencast.
4. Do some action in recording area, try to stop ffmpeg (press "Q"), then play file you have got. Do you see those action, you've done in recording area earlier ? What do you see?

Additional.
When I tried to reproduce it with Mageia-7.1-Live-Plasma-x86_64, all worked good, recording were normally.
I noted, that the x11-server-xorg has 1.20.4-1.mga7 number, but the last package has 1.20.5-1.mga7.
The problem has appeared approximately 5 days ago.

Thank you for this report - and the long detailed command to illustrate the problem! And the test with the Live ISO.
With Radeon graphics, and the same package versions cited above, I ran the command successfully, the video re-played successfully. A screencast from ffmpeg!

> with Intel graphics
Can you please say more precisely what the graphics hardware is. Also, if possible, what driver it is using.
And what the kernel version is.
Can you also please try the problem with the *previous* kernel, which you should be able to choose from the Grub2 'advanced' menu.

Assigning to kernel:drivers in the first instance; CC Thierry in case it is down to x11-server.

Notebook, processor - Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU P6200 @ 2.13GHz
with Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller
Driver - "Intel 810 and later".

The main kernel is kernel-desktop-5.3.7-4,
I've tried with kernel-desktop-5.3.6-2 - unfortunately, the same result.

Using SimpleScreenRecording or recordMyDesktop, I have a freezed video in file too.

Also, the Mageia-7.1-Live-Plasma-x86_64 has kernel-desktop-5.1.14-1.
I tried with this kernel - the same bug.

So, may be there are something else has a part in the process, but only one part I can't to try - previous version of X11 server and other packages about X11.
Comment 4 Levchenko Roman 2019-11-10 08:26:54 CET
With Nvidia - another story.
There are no freezed video in file, but here a little artefact at the top of the frame in recorded video, like a short flashing and shaking, visually reminding unconfigured tracking in VHS pleers. Example of video with this artefact here https://yadi.sk/i/IQOq69_n5GaaRQ .

I've tried it on too computers, with:

NVIDIA Corporation GK208B [GeForce GT 710]
module - "NVIDIA GeForce 635 series and later"
Driver - nvidia

and

NVIDIA Corporation GT218 [GeForce 210]
module - "NVIDIA GeForce 8100 to GeForce 415"
driver - nvidia

P.S.
Some fix to Comment 2:
module - "Intel 810 and later"
driver - i915

So, no options for this OS?
...that's a shame.
Comment 6 Aurelien Oudelet 2021-07-06 13:14:40 CEST
Mageia 7 is EOL since July 1st 2021.
There will not have any further bugfix for this release.

You are encouraged to upgrade to Mageia 8 as soon as possible.

@reporter, if this bug still apply with Mageia 8, please let us know it.

@packager, if you work on the Mageia 7 version of your package, please check the Mageia 8 package if issue is also present. In this case, please fix the Mageia 8 version instead.

This bug report will be closed OLD if there is no further notice within 1st September 2021.
