As per bug 22398 qtpass fails to generate a gpg2 key or initialize the pass store for new users. It works ok if the key is generated first, and the pass init command run manually.

I have tested and reproduced it with the version in mga6. I have submitted 1.2.3 to cauldron, and I have a local build for mga6 on my desktop (minimally tested), which I will try and test for this over the weekend.
Looks like it's supposed to be fixed in 1.2.3 according to https://github.com/IJHack/QtPass/issues/215
