Description Jean-Claude BRETHOME 2018-04-02 18:38:18 CEST
Mageia 6.
Module Realtek RTL8811AU for wifi USB adapter is missing in kernel 1.14.30.
By moving from kernel 4.14.25 to kernel 4.14.30 my AC600 WiFi USB Adapter (Netgear) is no more recognized. Switching back to 4.14.25 at boot time is fixing the problem, switching back again to 4.14.30 is creating the problem and so on.

It seems this is again the same problem as the one related in BUG-22524 (kernel 4.14.13) and formerly in BUG-21043 (kernel >= 4.4.68).
Comment 1 Thomas Backlund 2018-04-03 11:55:39 CEST
In 4.14.30 we updated the driver from v4.2.2 to v5.2.20 to get fixes for KRACK security issues and fixes for connecting to 5GHz networks...

But seems Realtek has altered the code so some of the usb ids does not get exported anymore, including yours... :/

I will look into fixing it up in next kernel build

OK, understand.
Many thanks.
Comment 3 Thomas Backlund 2018-04-08 23:08:45 CEST
Turns out the updated driver code is missing various bits for supporting your hw, so I've reverted the driver to the v4.2.2 codebase for now.

It's now in the kernel-4.14.33-1.mga6 in updates_testing

Comment 4 Aurelien Oudelet 2020-08-16 17:00:21 CEST
Mageia 6 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2019-09-30. It is no longer
maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug
fix updates.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan
to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to
a later Mageia version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we
weren't able to fix it before Mageia 6's end of life. If you are able to
reproduce it against a later version of Mageia, you are encouraged to click
on "Version" and change it against that version of Mageia.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent
Mageia release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them
obsolete.

If you would like to help fixing bugs in the future, don't hesitate to join the
packager team via our mentoring program [1] or join the teams that fit you
most [2].
