___Description of problem: Before login screen go black and it seem crashed ___Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): kernel 4.14.25 and .20 - Did not have this laptop earlier. Using Plasma 5.12 and related plus some more from updates testing ___How reproducible: always. *Suspend*-resume do work flawlessly. ___Steps to Reproduce: 1. Configure it to hibernate on lid close 2. close lid -> "on" led switched from blue(on) to orange(suspend) to off. 3. open lid and press power button -> boots to grub menu, let it continue; -> it asks for encryption password, give it; -> the cauldron logo comes up bubbleing, but: -> suddenly screen go black. This happens in less than half time it usually takes to get to the SDDM login screen. ...let it sit for minutes, still nothing, indicator led is blue saying it is active... -> there is no output on HDMI either 4. Ctrl-Alt-F2 -> still black 5. typing "root", enter, root passwd, enter "reboot" enter -> no reaction 6. I removed splash quiet from kernel boot line parameters, and now see that after I enter LUKS password the image loads, and then sceen go black immediately.
So it's not hibernating that fails, but resuming. Guessing that's a kernel issue, assigning accordingly.

Still valid kernel 4.14.44-2
Is it still valid in Mageia 7? Cauldron?

Problem still there on mga7 a couple months ago. (i sometimes test while testing new kernel)
Version: 6 => 7
@Developers: There have through years been problems like this reported. It would help to get debug output early in resume somehow... dumped to screen, serial port, USB... Is that possible to arrange?

Still valid. Upgraded this system to mga8. Upgrade went fine. After correcting the hibernation issue per https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_8_Errata#Hibernation , rebooting, and in grub menu remove "splash quiet", after entering luks key and some normal boot messages roll by, I see it restore 100%, then immediately screen blackens and nothing more happens. No response on anything but depressing power button four seconds. After reboot i see nothing at all from that boot was saved to journal.
Which GPU you have? At least I had problem with one MGA7 system where I swapped the existing MGA7 harddrive to newer the AMD B450 motherboard with rx 5700 GPU. That system failed to show UI over HDMI. (I think the problem was that the llvm version on MGA7 was too old to build some amd related component during the boot time) I managed to ssh to that system but urpmi/rpm update to mga8 seemed always hang during the glibc rpm install. (Console just showed updating glibc rpm for hours) In the end I gave up and just did the fresh MGA8 install to another harddrive and that worked well for me.

Mageia 7 is EOL since July 1st 2021. There will not have any further bugfix for this release. You are encouraged to upgrade to Mageia 8 as soon as possible. @reporter, if this bug still apply with Mageia 8, please let us know it. @packager, if you work on the Mageia 7 version of your package, please check the Mageia 8 package if issue is also present. In this case, please fix the Mageia 8 version instead. This bug report will be closed OLD if there is no further notice within 1st September 2021.
Hi bug reporter and hi assignee and others involved, Please reopen this bug report if it is still valid for Mageia 8 or 9(cauldron), and change "Version:" in the upper left of this report accordingly. This report is being closed as OLD because it was filed against Mageia 7, for which support ended on June 30th 2021. Thanks, Marja

I started seeing this on my HP Probook 6550b several months ago after doing a hibernation one morning. At first, it only happened on the first (resume) boot after sending the laptop into hibernation. The symptoms were as described. I had to press the power button, at which point the system would shut down. Starting the machine again went to a cold boot. But that was only at first. Days later, it happened again, even though I had shut down normally. It happened again a few days later, then more frequently, sometimes needing several tries before the cold boot would complete. No hibernation at all through all this. Removing "splash quiet" from the kernel options seemed to reduce the frequency, but did not eliminate the problem. This is my main laptop, and the production install on that laptop. The situation persisted through several kernel updates, was annoying, then unbearable. I eventually "cured" the problem by doing a clean install (retaining /home) using the netinstall iso. That was 2-3 months ago, and it hasn't happened again. BUT, I have religiously avoided putting this install into hibernation in that time, so I have simply avoided the trigger. And, I have no intention of trying hibernation again on this install until this is known to be fixed. It's just too annoying.

Yes tiresome. Tested yesterday anyway on that machine; Still valid current kernel 5.15.18-2 On resuming from hibernation it hangs early with black screen. Nothing in log - naturally, as it did not even get to the LUKS key dialogue. Interesting a fresh install cured it in your case :) On my Dell Precision M6300 i see it instead fail saving when resuming, so naturally it boots fresh. That is a fresh install. I may get log and open a report on it. And I may try a fresh test install on a stick for this Acer. Time is the limit.
(In reply to Morgan Leijström from comment #14) > > Interesting a fresh install cured it in your case :) > Well, I had decided my / partition was a bit too cramped, so I took advantage of the situation to use Gparted to make some adjustments before that new install. Forgot to mention this is an MGA8-64 Plasma install. The Probook has a first-generation i3, 8GB of RAM, and on-board Intel graphics. /, swap, and /home are on the primary ssd drive, while most of my data is on a secondary rust drive, with links to the data folders on the ssd. I normally use auto-login.
I got tired of trying, did not even try after upgrading to mga9, should have. But now testing with kernel-desktop-6.6.14-1.mga9: hibernation-resume works :) Using default entry in GRUB and LUKS asks for password. Quick it is also both to hibernate and resume. (And also suspend-resume works - as usual) Status in mga8 unknown, but resolved in mga9 If anyone hits this in mga8 try latest backport kernel, maybe linus. - or better upgrade to mga9, it is about time :) - per comment 15 maybe fresh install.
