Description Frédéric "LpSolit" Buclin 2011-07-25 00:12:38 CEST
See bug 1666 comment 13:

There is a severe regression with VLC 1.1.11: the audio and video are no longer
in sync when playing a FLV or MP4 video. This problem disappears when
reinstalling vlc-1.1.9-4.mga1.tainted. Is one of the Mageia patches responsible
for this regression, or is this problem also visible upstream?

I reported this bug upstream: https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/5124

This bug has been fixed. See the last comment there.

the last comment is not really useful i would say..
Use git or drop pulseaudio. not even a git commit so our maintainer can eventually pick the fix :/

I suspect there are several commits responsible for the bug fix. Could be e.g.:

http://repo.or.cz/w/vlc.git/commitdiff/ccb049c1f3e71a5303181e690ac5b06339021bd9
http://repo.or.cz/w/vlc.git/commitdiff/37d21af0eb0be93fead5b91fa63e99c01fc9994d

in which case it's maybe safer to just take what's currently on the 1.1 branch, as there may be dependencies between patches.

Adding Colin to CC.

This is an upstream VLC issue.

I have spent a lot of time patching VLC but these won't make VLC work until the 1.2 version lands.

I've not looked specifically at the 1.1.x branch as it's quite broken in lots of ways around this issue, and I barely have enough time to look at the 1.2 code :(

If someone wants to try back porting current 1.1. branch to see if it helps, please do so.

FWIW, I've been told that various patches have been integrated into 1.2 now that vastly improve PA support. Not had time to take them for a test run yet....

Assigning to maintainer now that our maintainers database has an entry for
this package. Please assign back to bugsquad@mageia.org in case of a mistake
from me.

Could someone backport vlc 1.1.12 to Mageia 1? Per the changelog:

"VideoLAN and the VLC development team present VLC 1.1.12, a bug and security fix release with improvements for audio output on MacOS and with PulseAudio.
This release was necessary due to a security issue in the HTTP and RTSP server components, though this does not affect standard usage of the player."

The improvements related to PulseAudio is what interests me specifically, but also the security fix, of course. I see that vlc 1.1.12 is already in Cauldron, but not in Mageia 1, leaving users with the security bug mentioned above.

Shlomi: I saw that you tried to update vlc to 1.1.12 in updates_testing/, but the build failed. Could you try again, please? :)
Comment 10 Shlomi Fish 2011-10-13 15:05:19 CEST
OK, vlc-1.1.12 is now in updates_testing/
Comment 11 Frédéric "LpSolit" Buclin 2011-10-13 18:10:13 CEST
1.1.12 seems to fix the sync problem I noticed in 1.1.11. :)
